Christina Martin Obituary
Dr. Christina Marie Martin was born in Columbus, Ohio to Drs. Gertrude and James Alexander. A bright and ambitious soul, Christina graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University in 1981. She continued her academic journey by graduating from The Ohio State University Dental School in 1983 where she finished at the top of her class. Even more impressively, she successfully obtained an advanced degree from the orthodontics program at the University of Michigan in 1987. She subsequently moved to Tampa, Florida where her two beloved children were born and raised. Her career in the practice of orthodontics blossomed into a successful business that included offices in both Tampa and Wesley Chapel. Outside of the office, she loved spending time with her children, and, given the chance, was always the first one on any dance floor. Stolen from this world on September 12, 2017, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by: her children, Lauren and Jack, ex-husband John Martin, sister and brother-in-law Susi and Dwight Churchill, her nieces and nephew Christina Sirois, Claire and Alex Churchill, cousins Amy, Neil and Jim Chivington, and, lastly, by the countless bright smiles she created every day.

My condolences for Dr Martin. Surprisingly enough besides being grateful for her work was always loving and caring to ask how I was. Never knowing she was the mother of my good friend in middle school and he was just as great of a person as a kid. Thank you for words of wisdom and a reason to smile when I was young.

Dr. Martin has crossed my mind throughout the years as I am tremendously grateful for the beautiful smile that she gave me back in 1998. It changed my life in countless positive ways, and even inspired 4 people in my friend circle (all adults like me at the time in their 20s and 30s) to get braces of their own! That's how great her work was. I remember Dr. Martin being a fun and friendly lady at the office when I'd come in. I even saw her one time down in Ybor City, having fun with a friend, laughing and stopping to say hello. She was a beautiful light and changed many lives for the better with her amazing talent and skill. I was shocked two years ago when I heard the news of her passing. I pray that her soul is at peace among loved ones. I wish comfort for her family and friends who miss her. I knew Christina for roughly 15 years, and my mom (a former Dentist in Tampa) has known her for upwards of 25+ years. Christina was always a kind, loving and friendly soul.. I'm very sad that she passed the way she did. I miss her already and won't ever forget her.

Christina Martin helped me obtain a smile when I was in my 50's and finding myself alone and without funds. She made it possible for me. She cared for everyone who worked with her and made her office seem like an extended family. When my dental work was done I was really sad to leave and not be coming back for my appointments every two weeks, but she gave me a "hollywood smile" and a way to present myself with confidence. She helped everyone to make their lives better in many different ways. She was a lovely, beautiful kind soul who managed a great career with compassion and a relaxed uplifting attitude every single day. I will miss you greatly.

I just learned of Christy's passing and am overwhelmed with sadness and shock. We were classmates in dental school at The Ohio State University and the 10 women in our class always shared a special bond of support. We were all so proud of Christy at the top of our class; even with this distinction she always was laid back, fun and smiling. I am so sorry for this loss and send many prayers to her family.

Dr. Martin treated it my husband, monther-in law, and my oldest daughter who was a thumb sucker and thanks to Dr. Martin she stopped doing it.
She was a wonderful orthodontist and person. I can still remember her joking about how my daughter always managed to come more often than she expected. She said: I'll see you in 3 months, but I know you'll be here before that. My daughter always had either a brace loose or wire sticking out. She was so gracious and never charged for the extra visits. We were waiting for my daughter to loose her last few baby teeth so she can get braces again. Dr. Martin said when she turned 12. My daughter just turned 12, and we were making the appointment when we learned of her passing. I'm so sad she's not going to be able to finish treating my daughter.

She comes to my mind so often and every time I am sad that she was so hurt and her beautiful family... I was deeply shocked and saddened to read of Christie's passing. She and I were dental school classmates.
During the years that we spent together Christie was always positive, upbeat and friendly. I will always remember her easy going spirit and gracious demeanor. We laughed and shared throughout those years as we worked diligently toward our degrees. I am fondly retracing other memories of her today.

Dr Martin treated both of my kids and was a regular part of their teen years. I haven't broken the news yet to them as I am certain the feelings will be overwhelming to them. Dr Martin was always quick with the wit and never hesitated to put a patient on the spot for not doing what they were supposed to (namely my son!). Dr. Martin was a joy and a blessing, gone too soon. I will never forget her positive, calm demeanor and professionalism when she did my braces back when I was in the 6th grade. I got braces back in 2010 and got a family discount from when my sister went there when she was little, years ago. Almost as if she was a family friend. She was a warm, understanding, caring and kind orthodontist and person to her patients and the community. She also had good humor: when I broke a bracket from eating coconut shrimp, she said "must've been some good shrimp." Her memory lives on and with many bright and better smiles because of her. Dr. Martin came recommended to me for my eldest son's braces. We liked her so much that my other son and I jumped on board and got braces too. She was so lighthearted and always so even-tempered. She just had a peace about her that made everyone around her feel joyful and calm. She had really found her calling. I'm sure Orthodontics is just one way that she expressed it, I can't imagine how many hundreds or thousands of people she touched through her practice. She will be dearly missed, but we will remember her every time we smile and see those straight teeth.

Dr. Martin was so special. I was pregnant when I got braces and we had this running joke on if I would deliver first or get my braces taken off. I did get the braces off first and delivered a beautiful baby boy, who just saw her last month to get his retainer tightened before he left for college!! Dr. Martin made beautiful smiles on all of my five children, and they are always getting compliments on how straight their teeth are. She was a beautiful person, and we all will miss her very, very much.
