I met Chris on Lejeune and he trained our teams up for our deployment. Undoubtedly his training kept all of us alive. He was all Marine, and an amazing friend and leader. Semper Fi! Romeo 5/10 Det 2 out!

I just wanted to write to say that I was thinking about you this Christmas. You remain and will forever be in my heart. You will not be forgotten this Christmas, or any other. We come up on a year since you skied up and left us .... it is less than it was ~smile~ it will always be that way .... The phone has stopped ringing, the visitors don't come, everyone moves on and you fade away, except to those of us that love you ... oh, by the way, thanks for blowing the TP out of my trees the other day, it was much appreciated. Well, thoughts and prayers with you as we enter the new year ... miss you and love you.

I just recently found out about your loss. My heart goes out to each of you. I attended the Groveport Madison Alumni banquet earlier this month and was shocked at seeing his name on the memorial page from our class. I am overwhelmed with sadness for each person that has been touched by this tragedy. What wonderful things he did in his short life. What an amazing man, someone that we are all proud of and will always remember. My prayers will continue to be with all of his family and friends.

Aunt Ray and Uncle Jerry, it only seems like yesterday when Chris stayed with us in Michigan and stayed up all night playing games. He has touched so many lives in his 38 years on earth and his impact on us will never be forgotten. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. God bless your son and my cousin!

My Broheim, Brother Man, I have missed your calls these last seventeen days. I have raged and raved, as you moved silently into that good night at the dying of your light. You were perfectly human, perfectly strong and perfectly frail, everything we are supposed to be in this life. I miss your wisdom ... my diplomat, my coach, my counselor, my teacher, my friend, my compadre. I can only say that without you, the world is suddenly, irrevocably and irreversibly something and somewhat less than it was before. I know you must be at the gate and that is why you have not called, but rest assured, I will see you soon. In eternity, it is but a millisecond. I'll see you on the rail, we'll have a coffee and watch the ponies run. Much love.

My sincerest condolences to Chris's family and friends. I am deeply saddened to hear of this news. I served with Chris in Afghanistan and got to know him quite well. I have a great deal of respect for his professionalism, dedication and sense of humor. I learned much about the USMC, myself and where I would like to carry my own service from Chris. From Chris I have learned and understand better the meaning of "Semper Fidelis" and what it means to be a Marine. I am proud to say that I served with Chris, knew him and consequently a better person because of this experience.

Very Respectful,

I met Gunnery Sergeant Scott Bachus in Kabul, Afghanistan in the Combined Forces Command CJ-3 Future Operations office. I had been there about a year when he arrived. What struck me most about this outstanding Marine non commissioned officer (NCO) was his strong desire to fit immediately into the office routine. He wanted to help and contribute in any way possible. He quickly made his presence indispensible. Before he departed, he gave me a very nice notebook with several Army "Hooah" patches on it that I still have and will cherish always. To the Bachus family: your loss is an absolute painful experience that I cannot ease. The one comment that I offer is that Chris was a model son, loving husband, a dear friend and a warfighting Marine. He gave this gift of friendship and his USMC service standards to all who knew him. God bless him and your family. V/r Jerry Watson COL INF, USA (Retired)

To Mrs. Bachus and the Bachus Family,

Chris served with me in Afghanistan. He was my operations SNCO at Camp Eggers. GySgt Bachus was a fine Marine, and I relied on him heavily throughout my tour in Kabul. Chris was a true professional who expected the best from his Marines and always took care of the younger Marines. Chris never missed an opportunity to poke fun at our Air Force brethen serving with us. He had a great sense of humor!
The Corps has lost another great Marine.
I pray that the Lord grant you peace during this difficult time.
Semper Fidelis
Sincerely,
LtCol Donald Modder USMCR
