Dave Lundberg Obituary

Lundberg, Dave
1934 - 2018
J. David "Dave" Lundberg, (he was nicknamed "Lunchbox" because he was always eating!), age 84, passed away peacefully June 8, 2018, at his residence at Kensington Place in Columbus, Ohio. He was born May 25, 1934 to Gertrude and Alfred Lundberg in Dayton, Ohio. He learned the value of hard work as a little boy selling empty pop bottles, then caddying at a neighborhood golf course as a teenager, and working as a sewer cleaner before going off to college. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Education, and achieved an advanced degree in School Administration. An outstanding athlete, he was honored to receive the "Athlete of the Year" award in 1956-57. He was president of Beta Theta Pi, a member of ODK, and a senior class officer. He married Jacqueline Kay Turner on November 30, 1957, and they raised three sons, Jack, Marc, and Trent. He worked as a teacher and football coach at several high schools in Ohio before going into estate planning and life insurance sales. He was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, the Top of The Table, and received numerous awards as one of the top salesmen in the country as an independent agent. He became a fan of bicycle racing when his youngest son started racing, and he organized and promoted the Athens Criterium, and the "A to Z" road race, which attracted bicyclists from all over the world, including World Champion and Tour de France winner, Greg LeMond. He was an astute and successful businessman, a wonderful provider for his family, and a leader in his community. He is survived by Jackie, his wife of 56 years; sons, Jack (Eve), Marc (Dianne), Trent (Melodee); grandchildren, Jakob and Lily; and brother, Carl (Mildred). Dave's family wants to express their heartfelt thank yous to the caring staff at Kensington Place, and the kind, compassionate nurses from National Church Residences Hospice, and to Eric, Dave's wonderful aide the last two weeks of his life. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, at Central College Presbyterian Chapel, 975 S. Sunbury Rd., Westerville. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation, or the athletic department at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. David and I were in school together at Wogaman, Irving, Roosevelt and Ohio University. He was always friendly with the African American students in a time when that wasn't the coolest thing to do at Roosevelt.
