Heaven gained an angel, David L. Gates, 63, of Columbus Ohio, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family. He was born January 8, 1958 Mt. Vernon, Ohio, son of the late Lyman L Gates and Dorothy (Strickland) Gates. Dave grew up in Mt. Liberty, Ohio also known as the Fun Capital of the World by local residents. He attended the Mt Vernon JVS and graduated from Centerburg High School in 1976. After he attended Lincoln Tech in Indiana and became a top diesel mechanic. Dave enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons and everything auto. He was either riding it, driving it or fixing it. He was a humorous man and loved spending time with his family and friends and also his dogs. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his Uncle "Ace" Adrian Gates. He is survived by his wife, Elena; his sons, Christopher and Eric Gates of Columbus; his sister, Nancy(Chris) Adkins, Marengo, Ohio; nephew, Ryan Adkins, Marengo, Ohio; and cousins, Claude Gates, Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Tammy (Fred) Faucett, Mt Vernon, Jim Gates, Mt. Vernon and Sharlena Biron. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 3-5pm with a Service immediately following all at Newcomer Funeral Home - NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43231. David was a Mt Liberty friend for many years. I used to babysit him and his sister, Nancy. His mom and dad were family friends forever. David was a good person and will be missed by many. Enjoy Heaven with your parents and enjoy looking down on your loved ones. RIP, David from your friend Roxanne.
