Goss David Mark Goss, age 64, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents Samuel Goss and Barbara Alter. He is survived by his wife, Rita Eppler-Goss; and children, Alyssa and Noah. David received his Ph.D. in 1977 from Harvard University. He was a professor at Princeton, Berkeley, and Brandeis before joining The Ohio State faculty in 1982 until retirement in 2013. During his tenure he served on Departmental and University Committees, and guided the Math Department as Chair and Chair of the Senate Fiscal Committee. David's research was in algebraic number theory and function fields, publishing a book, and over 40 academic papers. He served as the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Number Theory for over fifteen years. In 2012, he was named a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and was appointed to the Emeritus Academy. He was a brilliant, quirky, wonderful, larger than life man whose love for his wife and children was unparalleled. He had a unique sense of humor and a deep, caring, and gentle attitude. He will be profoundly missed by so many whose lives he touched and the many people who loved him. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL.
