Diane Tschantz Obituary

Tschantz Diane Lynn (Smith) Tschantz, lover of the outdoors, age 62, resided in Columbus, Ohio, for 30 years with her beloved husband, Tom, before losing her year long battle with Lymphoma, Wednesday. Diane was born in Akron, Ohio, on February 26, 1952 to Frank Edward Smith, Sr. (deceased) and Hazel (Carsey) Smith. She went to Coventry High and received her bachelor's degree in Education from Akron University before teaching second grade at Magnolia Elementary School in Sandy Valley School District. Her favorite activities were biking with the Stark County Biking Club (SCBC), and later riding a tandem with her husband. She also enjoyed kayaking, camping, bird watching, and especially hiking through the spring wildflowers at Rocky Fork Lake. She was a loving mother and was devoted to raising her son and daughter and working with kids in the community. One of her most enjoyable memories was meeting the people from the Happy Hikers group, and the great camaraderie and fun they shared! Diane is survived by husband, Tom; daughter, Katrina; son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Christy (Edwards); and grandson, Jason. Also surviving are brother, Frank Smith (Michelle); sisters, Carol Carman (Kenneth, deceased) and Susan Wilson (Windsor); and nieces and nephews, Alisha, Kristen, Haley (Patrick), Colleen, Ben, Jacqueline, Jeremy and Marjeigh. Diane leaves behind a multitude of other family members who adored her. Her family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2014 at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High St., Worthington. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Diane's memory be made to St. Mary's Building Fund at 212 South High Street Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.

Tom and Family – What a wonderful wife and Mom you had to experience life with. Remember her through all the laughter and smiles because she is always with you.
I first met Diane in their family boat on Hower Lake a very long time ago. She obviously saw the need for more outdoor life in this northern born-southern raised kid. She mentored me in boating/canoeing and introduced me to her sisters and her family. Most of my summers out of school was spent on Hower Lake and North Reservoir with Diane, Carol, Sue and/or Bob H. Then after high school, life takes over and I lost contact with my 'lake friends'.
This year due to a detour of luck - I was reunited with Diane and the other ‘lake friends'. I was welcomed back into their lives, met Tom and Katrina and families of the others.
Consoling thoughts and prayers from down south.

Dear Kevin and Christy. Your mother/mother-in-law loved the out doors so much. No wonder you are enjoying it as well. She will be watching you, hoping you pass that enjoyment on to your new little one. Love to the both of you and all of your family.

Dear Tom, Katrina, Kevin and Christy,
Please accept my deepest sympathies in the loss of one beautiful person, Diane Tschantz. Her smile was amazing and the tenacity with which she faced life was an example to us all.We all thought she was going to beat the cancer and it was a shock and disappointment for all that this ugly disease was winning the battle. Diane's gentle nature was obvious and I am sure this past year's experiences have been quite difficult for all of you. I pray that eventually all the wonderful memories you have of her will replace the awful ones of sickness and death. Her suffering has ended, but I can only imagine that what you really want is to have her back, whole and well. I pray you can take comfort in the fact she now rests in the arms of God who has healed her completely as He has welcomed her home.
God bless you all as you make the adjustments moving forward. We continue to pray for you and your family and we send our love and deepest sympathies. Most sincerely, Lynette

Tom & kids: I cannot tell you just how sorry we are about Diane. She will be dearly missed by all of us neighbors and it was our pleasure to have gotten to know her all these years we have lived on the street.

May God bless you all and keep you in his hands. Please reach out if we can do anything for your family.

Diane was one of our "3 Moms" trio, as we watched and cheered on our three sons (Kevin, Sam, Zach) while they sailboat raced. She never wasted a single moment of her day and was heavily invested in the lives of her children and the outdoors. She will be missed.
