Donald J. Tosi Ph.D., age 80, of Delaware, OH, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Riverside Hospital with his family by his side. Don was born on October 14, 1940 in Martins Ferry, Ohio to the late Henry and Rose Tosi. Beloved husband of Josie (DeBlasis) Tosi for 57 years; loving father of Fran (T.A.) Ward of Columbus, OH, Nicole (Paul) Schumacher of Canton, OH and Alicia (Chris) Gempel of Dublin, OH; treasured grandfather of Tommy and Lauren Ward; Paul, Andrew and Brooke Schumacher; and Zach, Luke and Cole Gempel; caring brother of Henry (Sue) Tosi of Gainesville, FL, and Lou (Mary Ellen) Tosi of Toledo, OH. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Lisa, Kathy, Jenny, Christa, Julia, and Nick. Don was a true renaissance man. His passions included spending time with his family, cooking, canning sauce, painting, holding court at Moretti's and music (especially jazz and opera). He could play all instruments by ear, but was especially fond of the saxophone. He was a counselor, researcher, author, and professor in the field of psychology. Don continued working full-time up until his recent hospitalization. Don attended The Ohio State University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and received his Bachelors of Science in History/Education from Franciscan University of Steubenville; Masters of Education in Counseling from the University of Toledo; and his Ph.D. in Counseling/Psychology from Kent State University. Don was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Toledo and Kent State University. He was a Professor at Western Michigan University followed by The Ohio State University and ultimately culminating in being named Professor Emeritus at The Ohio State University, a role in which he served for over 25 years. He provided psychological services to individuals, families, couples, professionals, businesses, and specialized in independent medical examinations for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and Industrial Commissions. Don was also on the courtesy staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, since 1976. He authored over 49 books, monographs, articles, and journal publications; and received many awards, perhaps his most memorable was the Distinguished Research Award in the College of Education at The Ohio State University. Don held multiple professional licenses and board certifications, as well as had many professional affiliations. Don will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A private memorial service will be held followed by a public visitation from 2:30-5pm on Saturday, July 31, at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH.
