Earl Falk Obituary

FALK Earl C. Falk, 84, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home Monday, April 23, 2007, after a long battle with congestive heart failure through which he never lost his friendly spirit and humor. Earl worked in the fire protection industry for over 40 years. He was one of the founders of Capital Fire Protection Co. (1963) from which he retired in 1989. He was full member of The National Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and helped start the local chapter and served as a board member for several years. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experience. Earl was an excellent teacher, mentor and friend of the industry. He earned the respect and friendship of all persons with whom he worked. Many Central Ohio Engineering firms sought his advice and counsel over proper standards, methods and calculations. He was always willing to "stop by and look over your shoulder." It was his goal that the person feel they had solved the problem themselves. He was proud he worked in an industry that saved lives and property. Veteran U.S. Army, WWII. Member of the Ohio National Guard, 155th AC&W Group, Men of World Wars, Maize Manor United Methodist Church, and Northwood Men's Bowling League. Graduate of North High School, 1940 and attended The Ohio State University. Preceded in death by daughter Karen W. Maienza and brother Lt. Colonel Carl Falk. Survived by wife of 64 years, Billie; children, John C. (Joyce) Sr., Alan (Aphrodite), Sally J. Falk, and Mr. Bill (Janet); grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Chorey, Scott Maienza, Dann (Ray) Maienza, David (Misty) Maienza, Jennifer (Jason) Haugh, John C. (Jennifer) Falk, Jr., Zach and Josh Falk, Derek Baxter, Jimmy Falk, Jennifer (Doug) Edwards and Jeremy Ragan; 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, 515 High Street, Worthington, Ohio, where family and friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. James Freshour officiating. Entombment Union Cemetery. Special "thank you" to Comforcare and Amandacare.
