Herbert E. Krebs

KREBS Herbert E. Krebs, age 94, died Thursday, August 9, 2012 in Santa Cruz, CA. He is survived by the love of his life, Rita, who he met in the first grade and married in 1939. During their 73 year marriage they raised 5 children and built a comfortable home in Whitehall, Ohio. Herb and Rita moved to Santa Cruz in 2006 to be with their daughters, Karen Burman (Howard) and Cecilia Krebs, and son, Francis Krebs (Elizabeth LoBue) and their families. He was a fun and sweet grandpa to Ty, Kerry, Angela, Cary, Jon, Gretchen, Gwendolynne, Guinevere, Anthony, Shalene, Noah, Max, Isaac, and Oliver; great-grandpa to 12; and great-great-grandpa to two lovely and loving children. Herbert was preceded in death by his son Thomas, and daughter Connie. Herbert had a long career at General Motors and proudly served in the Marine Corps during WWII. He liked to tell tales of his adventures with fellow soldiers during that era. He was a devoted Catholic and a staunch Republican. Herb felt it was his duty to show kindness and generosity to those in need, often without acknowledgement, and always without judgement or complaint. He loved to garden and was a pioneer in organic gardening. His tomatoes were the tastiest and his yard was filled with the fragrances of the many beautiful roses he planted and nurtured. Friends may call Wednesday, August 15 from 5-8 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL, 4019 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 16 at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4383 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio. An interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery will follow.
