1919 - 2018
I. Douglas Ball, age 99, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018. He was born on January 29, 1919 in Stockport, Ohio to the late Ivan and Ernestine (Dulaney) Ball. Doug graduated from The Ohio State University and was an avid Buckeye fan. He served with the US State Department, both in Washington, D.C. and Amman, Jordan. For 30+ years, he worked for the State of Ohio in Human Resources. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and taught safe boating classes. Doug volunteered at the Ohio Historical Society and Ohio Village, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Franklin Heights High School and as a tour guide for the Santa Maria. For over 20 years, he served as an usher at Ohio Stadium for OSU football games. He was an animal lover, enjoyed boating and handicrafts, and was a history enthusiast, especially the Civil War Era. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Gardner) Ball. He will be greatly missed by his children, Brian Ball, Robin Thomas, Katha Bloomer and Kevin (Kimberly) Ball; grandchildren, Joel, Krista, Joshua, Katie, Alex and Spencer; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Meb (John) Lippincott; and other family members and friends. Celebration of Life will be held from 2-5 PM on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221.
