J. Alwood Obituary

Alwood J. Virgil Alwood, age 95, of Frankfort, KY, passed away on November 28, 2016. Virgil was born on May 11, 1921 in San Francisco, CA to the late John Virgil Sr. and Marie Mangold Alwood. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Buettner Alwood, wife Mary Jane Wight Alwood, children William, John Virgil III and Allen Alwood, grandson Adam Zalipski and brothers Joseph, William and Earl Alwood. Virgil is survived by his sister, Marie Strain; children, Katherine Foster (John) of Austin, TX, Howard Alwood of Galloway, OH, Edna Ratliff (Ed) of Mission, TX, Mary Zalipski (Jim) of Dayton, OH, Cheri Hatfield of Circleville, OH, Marcia Gemmell (Gordon) of Lawrenceburg, KY and Cindy Tracy of Georgetown, KY; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Alwood of Marion, OH; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. With his wife, Mary Jane, he owned and operated Virgil Alwood Florist in Pickerington and Reynoldsburg, OH. Later with his wife, Barbara, he operated Barb's Flowers in Frankfort, KY. Virgil always supported the small business community. He will be remembered fondly for all the joy his flower shops brought to so many people. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
