James Ford Obituary

FORD James Douglas "Jim" Ford, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, October 11, 2010 at Carriage Court of Hilliard. Jim celebrated his 90th birthday on September 14 with lots of visitors and three birthday cakes! He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1920 to Samuel Sidney Ford and Mary Aston Savage Ford. He was preceded in death by his wife Opal Imogene Burkey Ford, his sister Eleanor Noble and brother Sidney Ford. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Hartman of Warner Robins, GA, Marilyn (Randy) Yoakum of Canal Winchester and Jodi (Tom) Rice of Columbus; four grandchildren, Douglas Hartman, Warner Robins, GA, Lisa (Eric) Scheffel, Pickerington, Gregory Gudenkauf, Las Vegas, NV and Samuel Rice, Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Katie and Ethan Scheffel, Pickerington; numerous special nieces and nephews. Jim was a World War II veteran, serving honorably in the south Pacific with the United States Navy. Jim attended North High School and completed two assignments with the Civilian Conservation Corps working in California and Oregon prior to military service. When he returned to Columbus Jim began a career of over 60 years in the water works business. He served as President of Stellar Corporation and Astral Corporation, retiring from Astral 5 years ago. Jim was Mason and a member of the Reynoldsburg Shrine. Jim was an avid golf who could still chip and putt well into his 80's. He was a member of Little Turtle Golf Club. Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 KENNY RD. (between Bethel and Henderson Rds.) A memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 15 at EGAN-RYAN FUNERAL HOME NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 Kenny Rd. (between Henderson and Bethel Rds.) with Pastor Bonnie Gerber officiating. A private burial will be held for the family. The family wishes to express our thanks to the caring staff of the Gardens at Carriage Court, especially Debbie, Chip, Kelly and Crissy and to the wonderful staff of Odyssey Hospice Care. Friends wishing to may make donations to Odyssey Hospice Care, 540 Officenter Place, Suite 100, Gahanna, OH 43230.
