Joan Crawford Obituary

CRAWFORD A devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, humanitarian, and friend, Joan Louise Crawford went home to be with the Lord on January 13th, 2012 having completed her extraordinary life here on earth peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born July 8, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, Joan was the beloved only child of Fred and Louise Frankenberger. She was a graduate of Bexley High School and went on to receive both her BA and MA in Education and Speech Pathology from The Ohio State University, where she was, also, an active Alpha Xi Delta. Joan dedicated her life to her three greatest loves - Jesus Christ, her family, and those students she taught throughout her decorated teaching career. Loved and respected by all who knew her, Joan possessed an irresistible smile, enormous heart, incredible patience, and the selfless ability to place the needs of others before her own. Joan used these traits in conjunction with her remarkable intelligence to excel as, both, an educator and a humanitarian, often finding ways to interweave these two passions. While living with her family in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joan created the "Home Bound Program" for the Jenks Public High School System, where she would go into the homes or hospitals of those students unable to attend class due to physical, emotional, and/or psychological reasons. For this, Joan was named one of Tulsa's "People of the Year". Joan received many other honors and distinctions for her tireless services in Tulsa, Columbus, and Worthington, Ohio. She was a member of The Ohio State University President's Cub, an active member of the P.E.O., and had a scholarship established in the name of her and her husband of 55 years, Richard C. Crawford, for their immeasurable work with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Joan will be missed but never forgotten. She is survived and celebrated by her husband, Dick; her children, Pam and Doug; her granddaughter, Hope; her brother-in-law, John Crawford, his wife, Harriet and their family. Services will be held this Friday, January 20th at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL - 6699 N. HIGH ST., WORTHINGTON, OHIO 43085. Visitation from 4-6:30 p.m., service at 6:30 p.m., with a casual reception to follow. In lieu of sending flowers the family suggests donations be made in Joan's name to The Central Ohio F.C.A. at P.O. Box 3171, Westerville, Ohio 43086 and/or The P.E.O. Sisterhood c/o Kathy Olson, 3992 Hill Park Rd., Hilliard, OH 43026. Romans 8:28. To share memories of Joan, visit www.schoedinger.com.

I will always remember Joan's warm smile and the love she brought with her each time she came to volunteer at Bluffsview.

She loved the children she met with and cared for each child in a very special way.

I know she will be missed but not forgotten.

Dick, Pam & Doug-
Your mom was such a special lady, who cared so much for all the people around her. She meant so much to my family, and she will be deeply missed. I know that she is now walking with Jesus, her Savior, and would encourage us not to be sad. I know I am a better woman, Christian, wife, and mother because of her influence in my life.

Dear Dick, Pam and Doug, We still can't believe the news about Joan. She was a special lady, and, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Her time on earth was certainly spent "giving " to others. She was one of the kindest ladies we have ever met. We hope your happy memories will be a comfort in the difficult days ahead. With our love and sincere sympathy, Jack and Barbara Nicklaus
