Dear Molly and family, I knew Andy during the "comedy" years and saw him start out at CD101. Although I have been in Tucson for 10 years I would stream the station and listen to him in the afternoons. He gave me a little shout out 2000 miles away after I emailed him from work. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him many times during my 15 years in Columbus. He had a huge heart! I think about him often and miss him. God Bless and I send loving prayers to you all.

August 3, 2010

I pass through Colubus many times a year, always turning on CD101. I lived here for 12 years before returning to Pittsburgh. I was shocked to see Andy on the cover of 614 magazine. Even though I have been gone a few years, it really touched me. The music was his passion and he played it well. We didn't have to listen to the same boring stuff over again. I only met him once, during a big room show with the Clarks, however I can still hear his voice now, as plain as ever. Will never forget. God bless his family. See you again Andy.

I remember when Andyman's first son, Johnny Ray, was born. You could simply hear the love and awe in his voice when he talked about this baby. Not only did Andyman give us the gift of music, he was a deeply kind and loving man. I listened to you for almost 20 years, Andyman. I'll miss you.

My mother would call me in North Carolina from time to time to let me know the details of Andy's latest radio success, the announcement of a marriage to his soulmate, and the births of his sons. You see, although I moved away, my mother would end up seeing Andy out at some event or another. He always took the time to talk to her,ask how I was getting along, and wishing me the best. All of this caring seems so unlikely from a long ago friend, but as we all know, this was "truly" Andy. We last spoke nearly 20 years ago when we recalled all the fun and crazy times of our youth. His favorite thing to do was play his latest new favorite song on CD while driving around town to visit friends(nearly everyone everyday!!!) It was during these drives that I grew to not only know; but love everything Beatles. Then there was the time he rescued me from my mother's wrath by taking me to the bloody prom. I didn,t decide to give in to her pleading or ask Andy to take me(as friends) until the day before so he had to run around, find a tux,(surely not an easy task as he was a giant among men!)borrow a fancy car, smile for a hundred pictures,(mom chased us down the road!) and still managed to make that day for me worth every minute even though he didn't know a soul.
Selfless, warm, caring, kind. The list is neverending. Andy was a living testimony to Christ's love, leaving us all better for having known him.
See ya in heaven!

To my friend and colleague Andy “Andyman” Davis of CD-101. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life. I will never forget DJing your wedding and fondly remembering that you always treated me like gold at work at the station or whenever we happened to bump into one another. You will be sadly missed.

We only hung out at the family reunion every year but still I was very proud to say "Andyman" was my cousin. One time he rolled down the huge hill behind our reunion site. On purpose. Not in a tire... He was a big guy. He bounced and rolled and got completely out of control! I thought my dad would laugh til he passed out. We really thought we would have to call the squad when he got to the bottom. He just popped right up and asked who wanted to go again! He was a joy to be around. Life is crazy unfair....

Andy lived his passion--something many don't have the guts to do. He did more for alternative music in Central Ohio than any other.

He may be gone but he'll never be forgotten--he has made an idelible mark on our community.

Andyman embodied the message of Christ, the spirit of Christmas, and a lust for life. He was a great boss and giving friend. So many people in this world are cynical but he was not. I still remember hanging out at The Patio listening to stories, getting him beer at remotes, and helping him take music calls. My favorite thing about Andy was hearing the last song of his shift that he would dedicate to Molly. He was friend to musicians because he loved their music. He got me to be a Kiss fan and respect Neil Diamond, an awesome feat. He leaves behind an amazing legacy.
God bless you all friends and family, great and small.

To know Andy was to love Andy. I knew Andy when he was a very young man just starting his radio career. To his wife and children, my words can not fill the void nor ease the hurt that is in your hearts. Yet the love of the God that I know Andy believed in can. Our prayers are with and for you.

July 21, 2010

Being a listener to CD101 Andyman was a big part of my day. I'd always talk to him through my radio and think "Oh Andyman...your so funny, or "Oh Andyman...your such a dork (luv anyways ;) or "Oh Andyman...your so awesome" I never even thought of how connected I was to him with without being totally connected. So I am surprised at how much it hurts now that he is gone. The last time I saw him was at the Black Joe Lewis show and after talking to him about how much I love CD101 he gave me one of those bear hugs. - I'm so glad that is my last memory of him. I send all my love to all who loved him, especially his wife and boys and the CD101 family. May we be thankful that we were around to share such a wonderful person in our lives.

I was deeply saddened by the loss of Andy (Andyman)... We grew up as neighbors, & I knew him to be a very loving, caring, (hugging) giving man.. Even after he moved away, & went on to pour his heart & soul into his career, I knew from listening to CD101, that he was still doing everything he cold to continue to be the "ANDYMAN" that I remembered him to be while we we're growing up. He gave everything he had to the community & then some.. He will be missed by many, many people who's lives he touched in all kinds of ways. God Bless the Davis Family, his wife, his children, his brothers, his family & his friends... Love Heidi Coss-McCloud

Andy Davis was hired at CD101 right before I was. Career counselors advise people to find something they love and pursue it; that way, your job never feels like work. Andy was lucky enough to channel his enormous passion for music and for people into a wonderful career. He loved his kids, he loved the Cubs, he loved the Beatles.

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." I often thought of Andy when I heard that line. It was just a song lyric. It certainly wasn't a cliche. Andy believed it and he lived it.

You know what the test of a real, genuine friend is? A real friend helps you move. When I needed to move back to Chicago, Andy didn't just help me, he drove the damn Ryder truck from Columbus to Chicago and back.

A few years ago, when Andy called me to tell me that Wendy Steele had died, we cried together on the phone. I know there are tears this week. Let's all try to make them tears of joy because we are blessed to have had him in our lives.

RIP, Andyman.

I never even heard of John Andyman Davis until today when I read about him at Cleveland's on-line site. The news about how he lived his life was quite beautiful. Since the obit states he loved his Catholic faith, it's obvious that he also lived his faith. How lucky it must have been to have known this beautiful soul. My sympathy to his family and all those who knew and loved him. Eternal rest grant unto John, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
