Egan, John
1943 - 2021
John was born on January 21st, 1943 in Washington D.C.to Vivian and Ralph Egan. He graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, served two years in the Peace Corp in Nigeria, and then graduated with a Masters degree in Social Work from Columbia University, in New York City. He was a family therapist at the Harding Hospital in Worthington, Ohio for many years and more recently in a private practice in East Columbus and Bexley, Ohio. He is survived by brother, Ralph (Pat) Egan; daughter, Sarah (Dave) Hoffer and sons, Ethan, Evan and Owen; son, Matthew Egan and children, Johanna, Sarah, and Jacob. His wife, Jean, survives along with children, James (Mary Pat) Jones and children, Allison (Adam) Clark-Estes, Madeline and Bridget Jones, John Jones and children, Kyle (Kristin) Nicole and Brandon Jones, Julieann Jones and children, Conner (Jacque) Turk, and Carly (Bobby) Spiers and Jennifer Zidar and children, Colin, Maura, and Julia Zidar and Nicholas Stanos; his brother and sister-in-law, Joanne and Robert Smith and son, Adam, and brother and sister-in-law, Joan and Robert Malackowski and sons, Bob Lynn, deceased, Michael , and Patrick (Carol ) survive. He was a loving and devoted "Papa" to his eighteen grandchildren and so proud of all of them. He was thrilled to be awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild this summer. Until his failing health, following cancer surgery in 2018, he rarely missed a birthday, celebration, baptism, first communion, confirmation, school play, high school musical, church or school choir performance. voice and dance recitals, graduations and must be hundreds of athletic events, rain or shine, cold or heat., ranging from tee ball to college level sports, and more recently the thrill of weddings , again in rain or shine. John loved walking the beach at Edisto Island, South Carolina, searching for sharks teeth and the nearly thirty years of summer vacations at Mittawanga beach on Lake Erie. He would ride his bike for miles on the country roads and then join his grandkids in the lake. John lost his battle with Covid, on February 20, 2021 and will be missed by all. Per his wishes, there will be no service and we will celebrate his life when it is safe to do so. Those who wish, may contribute to the Faith Mission in Columbus Ohio,
