Stecher, John E.
1942 - 2021
John E. Stecher, "Big John", passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021, one week shy of his 79th birthday. He was born on August 26, 1942 to the late Joseph R. and Mary E. Stecher. He was preceded in death by his sister Charlene, daughter Cinea, and several extended family members and close friends. John was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, graduating from Linden-McKinley High School in 1960. He tried a variety of jobs before moving to Indiana to start a lifelong career working on the railroad. After 30 years, John retired from CSX and returned to Columbus. A member of Moose Lodge 1427, and a frequent patron of Lindy's, John never knew a stranger. His personality was larger than life and he had friends all over the world. John was a huge sports fan, forever loyal to Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns. He loved playing golf and euchre, telling jokes, and sipping a good scotch. John touched so many lives. If everyone shared their favorite story or memory it would fill volumes! He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Onie; his daughters, Jodie, Jamie, and Kris; his sons, David and Jay; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as countless friends who thought the world of him. In his memory, please consider a memorial contribution to either Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Drive, Columbus, OH 43214 or to the Franklin Dog Shelter and Adoption Center, 4340 Tamarack Blvd, Columbus, OH 43229. A private cremation has been entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTH at 5554 Karl Road. Please visit to share stories and send messages of comfort to his family.
