HAYDEN Malcolm Scollay Hayden, age 80, died Thursday, October 4, 2007, at his home in the company of his loving family. He was born in Boston, MA on January 21, 1927, the son of Malcolm Parker Hayden and Marjorie Beckley Hayden. Mr. Hayden grew up in Plymouth MA. He attended Brown & Nichols School, Cambridge, MA and The Lawrenceville School, NJ. He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, class of 1949, where he played football. He married Jennifer C. Thorne in Boston on September 14, 1957. Mr. Hayden taught and coached at Mattanamcook Academy, ME, the St. James School, MD, and Deerfield Academy, MA. He later spent more than 15 years in publishing starting with Allyn & Bacon in Boston, MA and Charles E. Merrill Publishing Co. in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Hayden began a new career in fundraising in the 1970's when he became Director of Development for Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. This career in Fundraising would also take him back to the private school sector, where Mr. Hayden held the position of Director of Development for the Kiskiminetas Springs School in Saltsburg, PA and North Yarmouth Academy in Yarmouth, Maine. Mr. Hayden was a member of the Mayflower Decedent Society, being a direct decedent of John Howland. While living in Ohio, he was a mentor and sponsor to under privileged children through ABC (A Better Chance) and was one of the founders of the Columbus Area Hockey Association (CAHA). He was a resident of Bexley, Ohio for 25 years, where he raised his family and made many life long friendships. He enjoyed all aspects of sports whether it was teaching and playing with his children, the time he spent playing or coaching baseball, football, hockey, or tennis, or simply being an appreciative spectator. He was constantly acquiring information either through the three newspapers he read a day, his keen interest in history and trivia, or by the genuine curiosity he had for everyone throughout his life. He especially found peace spending time on Seavey Island, Muscongus Bay, ME. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and friend whose kind and generous spirit will be missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Hayden of Harpswell; a son, Christopher Hayden and his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Mackey of Eliot, ME; two daughters, Sarah Dorsey and her husband, George (Sid) of Freeport, Elizabeth Keene and her husband, Peter of Springfield NH; four grandchildren, Ian and Hannah Dorsey both of Freeport, Emmaline and Hayden Keene, both of Springfield, NH. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2007, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pleasant Street, Brunswick with the Rev. Daniel Warren officiating.
