Marc Levison Obituary

LEVISON Marc Levison, of Bexley, loving husband, father and inspiration to thousands passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Afflicted with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) for over 21 years, he taught his family, friends and the community to stand up and never give up. As his body weakened his spirit gained astonishing power and his daily thoughts and philosophical insights reached his loyal readers and taught all to overcome challenges and focus on the positives. Marc's life was spent with enjoyment and service to his country (Marc served in the U.S. Navy on USS CV-61 Ranger during the Vietnam War). Marc was also a retired Union Electrician from IBEW Local 683. Most of all, Marc's life had meaning. As the ALS progressed, he couldn't stand but he taught all to stand tall, as his ability to speak deteriorated his voice and message became even stronger. The Annual Marc Levison 5K Run/Walk for Lou Gehrig's Disease has raised over $150,000 through the Helping Link Foundation to fund research to find a cure for the debilitating disease. This year alone, Marc raised over $25,000 and fought through tremendous pain and battled yet another cursed disease, cancer, in order to participate in the 7th annual event. Marc Levison recently celebrated his 63rd birthday. He is preceded in death by his mother Fay, his father Abraham, and his sister Sheila. Marc is survived by his beautiful and caring wife of 42 years, Eileen; and his children, Brent (Jessica) and Kevin. Graveside ceremony was held Thursday, October 8, 2009. The family will sit shiva at the family's residence starting Monday, October 12, 2009 and continuing through Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. A memorial for the community to celebrate the life of Marc Levison will be held at Congregation Torat Emet / Main Street Synagogue (www.toratemet.org), 2375 E. Main Street, 43209 on Sunday, November 8 at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers or gifts to the family, please send donations to help find a cure to ALS: The Helping Link Foundation, 2740 Fair Avenue, Bexley, Ohio 43209 In all of our hearts, souls and minds, Marc ingrained his smile and his devotion to find a cure. His legacy is cemented and we will follow his lead and never give up! Online guestbook at www.epsteinmemorial.com.

I am so sorry that I just learned about Marc's passing ! I saw the story on the news the other night. I feel terrible that I did not know ! I would have come to the ceremony to pay my respects. I have no words except that he was such a GREAT inspiration and a wonderful man. Esp. when I was losing my best friend Keith to this disease. I brought my son to the race every year so he could understand the effects of ALS and it was so impt. to the both of us. I will be there this year and every year. Please accept my sincere sympathy and undying gratitude for all that Marc did for myself and the community !!!! You are in our thoughts and prayers every night

I remember a month ago ,when i last saw Marc----Shoshana (my niece) and i went over to visit him for a hug and kiss and chat with my lifelong friend. We were in hebrew school together-aza/bbg- bar mitzvah parties and so much more.
Since he lived directly across the street from my Brother and his family Marc has remained a really integral part of my life.
It has been a gift to know and love Marc. No one who knew Marc will be left untouched by his presence in our lives.
