Marcia Jones Obituary

Jones Marcia Lott Jones, passed from this life on June 18, 2017, after a four-and-a-half-year struggle with Lewy body dementia. She was preceded in death by her parents Winfield and Dorothy Lott of St. Petersburg, FL. Surviving family members include her brother, Martin Lott, (Carol); sons, Peter (Anne), Dan (Emmie), Paul (Naoka); six grandchildren, Caroline, Natalie, Ethan, Aaron, Reina, and Kaiya; and nephew, Tyler (Alicia). Marcia was born in St. Petersburg, FL on March 14, 1941. She had many interests as a young girl. Among them were tennis and cello, both of which she enjoyed and excelled at into her adult years. In high school, Marcia was elected as "Miss St. Petersburg High School," was homecoming queen and was captain of the tennis team. Marcia attended Denison University where she majored in Latin. She continued to develop her musical talent, participated in many clubs and was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Marcia married Andrew Jones in 1963. They lived in Cambridge, MA while he finished his senior year at Harvard Law School and while Marcia taught high school Latin. In June of 1964, they moved to Bexley, Ohio where they had three sons. She continued to pursue her tennis and was an A player on many teams. She played the cello in the Otterbein Symphony Orchestra, Women in Music, and in numerous ensembles. Other interests included her gardening, bird watching and exploring nature at Columbus metro parks. Marcia enjoyed the arts and music with close friend Henry Brecher. After her boys went to college, she resumed teaching Latin in the Columbus public schools. She then worked the remainder of her career in the national office of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, in Columbus. Her family and friends will miss her cheerful wit and true genuineness. They will remember the warm smile and kind personality that she carried with her everyday. A Memorial Service will be held on July 1, 2017, at Westminster Thurber, 717 Neil Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43215, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends wishing to acknowledge Marcia's life consider making a donation to the Nature Conservatory, in recognition of Marcia's love of nature and birds.

Marcia was a dear friend and co-worker. I will miss her spirit on this Earth. I can still hear her voice as she greeted thousands of visitors, friends and co-workers in person or greeting those on the phone at the International Headquarters of Kappa Kappa Gamma at 530 East Town Street. Sleep well, my friend, in peaceful slumber.
