Martin Hoffman Obituary

Hoffman Martin "Marty" Hoffman, age 82, passed away on June 12, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Marty was born in Columbus on June 11, 1931. He was preceded in death by Rita Katz Hoffman of 32 years of marriage and survived by his second wife, Geraldine Schottenstein Hoffman of 20 years. He is preceded in death by his parents Esther and Joe Hoffman, his loving in-laws Ben and Sonia Katz, and his 11 brothers and sisters Herman, Sarah, Lena, Philip, Max, Molly, Meyer, Isadore, Leah, Mildred and Annette. Brother-in-law Michael (Sheryl) Katz of New Jersey, sister-in-law Arlene (Ami) Sapir, sister-in-law Ruth (David) Katz Levine. Marty is survived by his loving children, Bradley Hoffman, Eric (Anny) Hoffman, Cheri (Tod) Friedman, Debra (Jeff) Meyer and Seth (Leslie) Hoffman. His loving grandchildren, Alex and Gabe Hoffman; Aaron, Jordan and Noah Hoffman, Rachel, Ross and Kara Friedman, Chad, Joshua and Will Meyer, Rebecca, Miles and Talia Hoffman. Marty is also survived by Jay (Jeanie) Schottenstein, Ann (Ari) Deshe, Susie (Jon) Diamond, Lori Schottenstein. Joey (Lindsay) Schottenstein, Jacob, Jonah and Emma; Jonathan and Jeffrey Schottenstein; Elie, David, Dara and Daniel Deshe; Jillian, Joshua and Jacob Diamond. Marty was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason. Owned Hoffman Container Corporation with his brother Max for 50 years. His passion was his synagogue, Beth Jacob Congregation, where he was chairman of the board for many years. He was the president of the Jewish National Fund and responsible for bringing the organization to Columbus. Was also active in the Columbus Jewish Federation and Israel Bonds. Marty will be sorely missed by countless friends and family who knew his outgoing and engaging personality. A heartfelt thanks to the Wexner Heritage Village and the Zusman House for all their love and care. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 14 at BETH JACOB SYNAGOGUE, 1223 College Ave. with Rabbi Avi Goldstein and Cantor Jeffrey Siegel officiating. Interment, New Beth Jacob Cemetery. Shiva will be held at the Meyer residence on Friday afternoon and will resume all day on Sunday. Monday through Wednesday, Shiva will be held at the Friedman residence for morning Minyan and will again resume from 5:30-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Beth Jacob Synagogue.
