Matthew Snipes Obituary

SNIPES Matthew Jon Snipes, age 42, also known by his on-air name of "Big Daddy Matt Allen", died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at his home. He was a well-loved, longtime DJ with WUCO 1270 AM where he worked for almost 20 years. He had a large and loyal following of listeners. He was a 1984 graduate of Bowling Green High School and attended the American School of Broadcasting in Columbus. Matt loved recording and producing and was very passionate about his job. He possessed great imagination and a quick wit. To know him was to love him. Matt collected friends and maintained friendships across time and distance. He will be remembered for his unique humor, his compassion, and his deep devotion to his children Jacki and Travis and his fiancee Marie. He was born May 1, 1965, in Charlottesville, Virginia, the youngest of four sons to Raymond and Loretta Snipes. In 1968, the family moved to Bowling Green, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father and his Sister-In-law Elsa Giammarco. Survivors include his mother, Loretta Snipes Wilson, and her husband, Rick Wilson of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, Nevada; his children, Travis Ray, age 13, and Jacki Lynn, age 12, each of the home; his fiance to whom he was to marry on September 29, 2007, Marie Travis, Marysville; three brothers, Timothy Snipes, Dublin, Josh (Cindy) Snipes, Sarasota, Florida and Aaron Snipes, Honolulu; his fiance's parents, David and Lisa Travis, Dublin; and close friends, Daniel "Spike" Garner and Bill Garner, Bowling Green and Frank Kulevich, Troy. Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 29, 2007, at 5 p.m. at MANNASMITH FUNERAL HOME, Marysville. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at www.mannasmithfuneralhome.com.
