Michael Dunn Obituary

Dunn Michael H. Dunn, 68, of Grove City, went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2015. This world lost and heaven gained a good man on that day. Mike was born December 20, 1946 in Portsmouth, OH. He graduated from Oak Hill HS in 1964 and remained close to many of his classmates. He loved to meet with them and reminisce. Retired from the Ohio Operating Engineers, Mike was a proud union member of Local 18. Mike was also a member of SAL Post 164, Mason's GC Lodge 0689, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus and Cornerstone Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his father Kermit Dunn, mother Peggy Dunn, eldest son Steve Dunn and brother-in-law Fred Ashbaugh. Mike is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 41 years, Sherlyn; his daughter, Shelli (Matt) Dunn; son, Jason (Bobbie) Dunn; grandson, Austin Copley; sister, Judi Ashbaugh; brother-in-law, Ed (Glenda) Wheeler; sister-in-law, Karen (Shane) Circle; three nieces; four nephews; three great-nieces; one great-nephew; many cousins and dear friends. In his partying days, Mike was the life of the party. In later years he enjoyed sitting outside in his yard, watching his birds at the feeders, enjoying his flowers, and chatting with his neighbors. Mike will be remembered as a loving, caring man with a big heart and a hearty laugh. He loved people and would start a conversation with someone wherever he would go. We will all miss his smile and his "bear hugs". Friends may join his family for a Celebration of his life on Saturday, April 25 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Cornerstone Christian Church, 4900 Big Run Rd. S., Grove City, OH 43123. Contributions in his memory may be made to the church he loved, listed above. To leave a special message for the family, visit www.NewcomerColumbus.com.

Sherlyn, Shelli and Jason ,
I had hoped that I could attend Mikes celebration of life gathering, but I didn't finish work until just after two. I hadn't seen him in a while, but I will remember him as others have described him. Warm, friendly and a great laugh. Take care and prayers sent to you for strength and comfort. ~Kim Kuhn~

Letter to Mike
Thank you for all your memories of "back in the day". I thank God for His plan to send me your way. You were the Homelawn leader way back then..On the "hill" we would fight the Indians and would always win. We started the first wee Oaks football team..Your dad was our coach; he inspired us to dream. Thanks to you Mike, for helping me in my darkest hour. You rescued me through God's grace, mercy, and power. You have always had that special gift and you were never without a story. I remember the time you bailed me out at Cory. You made us laugh about our past in the village of Oak Hill...All those good times are with us still. Through our EUB Church a godly man would pass..The Holy Spirit sent an angel to our Sunday school class. Chet M. was the believer God chose to send. We were so young, I was eleven and you were ten. Chet was with us when we went to the alter that winter night. We asked God for forgiveness and to help us get right. This is and was the most important decision we would ever make..To trust and hope in Him is never a mistake. Mike, I love you, you are my friend, neighbor, teammate and brother. It will not be long til the Homelawn boys will again see one another. Oh Happy Days!

Mike was the best neighbor I have ever had. 10 years ago I moved into the neighborhood all alone. I believe I had only been here two days when here came MIke, smiling and speaking with that deep voice of his, and introduced himself. It was an instant friendship. He made the neighborhood and my life a place of joy. I never felt alone in this neighborhood again. I will miss him so much, and can not say how sorry I am to Sherlyn and the family. I know the heartache and lonliness you are feeling. The flower gardens in heavens will be so pretty forever. Jodena
