Miriam Goodman Obituary

Goodman, Miriam
1926 - 2021
Miriam Goodman passed away on January 3, 2021 at her home in Gahanna. She was 94. A loving wife and mother, she was a deceptively strong-willed and independent woman whose kindness, wisdom and advice were treasured not only by her children, but also by her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and, frankly, most anyone who knew her. Most affectionately called her by her nickname, "Toody.'Toody met and married her true love, Kent Goodman, in 1950. At the time, she was working for the former Lazarus department store in downtown Columbus after graduating with a bachelor's degree in business from Ohio State University. Throughout their years together, the couple cherished each other and their four children. After Kent died in 1974, Toody finished raising the youngest of her children and returned to OSU to earn a teaching certificate. Over subsequent years, she tutored dozens of school children from her home, plying them with her knowledge and her homemade cookies. Even as her health and mobility declined in recent years, Toody continued to read the newspaper, complete the crossword and Jumble, check Facebook on her iPad, keep up with the latest news on CNN or MSNBC and -- when she could find a willing victim -- play Scrabble. In addition to her husband, Toody also was preceded in death by her father and mother Ben and Sarah Carlstein, sister and brother-in-law Leah and Fred J. Corcoran, sister Louise Carlstein and brother Herman Carlstein. She is survived by children Randi (John) Stires, Brad (Robyn Wolff) Goodman, Debbie (Gary) Holzman and Adam (Carolyn) Goodman; grandchildren Kari (Jarrett) Wampler, Michelle (Nathan) Elam, Sarah Goodman, Jack Goodman, Lisa Holzman, Laura Holzman, Lizzy Goodman and Josh Goodman; as well as nieces and nephews Ann (Carl) Janiak, Susan (Nathan Ames) Corcoran and Ben (Judy Rush) Corcoran. A private family service will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at New Tifereth Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to OhioHealth Hospice at https://www.ohiohealth.com/services/ohiohealth-at-home/hospice/, American Heart Association at www.heart.org, Temple Israel at www.templeisrael.org or a charity of your choice.
