Nancy Winkel Obituary
Brookfield - Nancy K. Winkel, age 80, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2014, in Brookfield, WI. Nancy was born February 14, 1934, in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of Howard and Gertrude Koehler. She was a graduate of U.W.-Madison. She married Thomas Winkel after college, (whom she met in the 8th grade in Wauwatosa and dated until marriage) and they settled in Brookfield, WI, where they raised three children.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas Winkel, Brookfield; her three children, David Winkel (Neenah), Susan (Ken) Okinski (Chicago) and Steve (Jean) Winkel (Sussex); 10 grandchildren, Jennifer May (Winkel) (Fairbanks), Jackie Winkel (San Francisco), Stephanie Winkel (Neenah), Katy Winkel (Neenah), Mary Winkel (Neenah), Julia Winkel, Nicole Winkel, Ryan Winkel (Sussex), Gerri Okinski (Shawano) and Gina Okinski (Chicago); 5 great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy (Bob) Schultz (Brookfield), and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Nancy was a generous, gentle and caring person. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family and friends. Nancy worked as a teacher/administrator at Milwaukee Area Technical College for many years after her children were of school age. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, travel, and time at her lake home surrounded by family/friends.
A celebration of Nancy's life will take place on Monday, July 7, 2014, at First Congregational Church, 1511 Church Street, Wauwatosa, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
