Peter Taub Obituary

TAUB Peter C. Taub, age 68, passed away on September 23, 2011 at home surrounded by family. For the past sixteen years he regarded his cancer as a mere inconvenience, just another problem to be solved. He was preceded in death by parents John B. and Sylvia Taub and step-mother Faye Taub. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughters, Emily (Orlay) Alonso-Taub, Stephanie (Jon) Fox and Katie Taub; sons, Jacob and Gabriel Taub; brother, William (Lucie) Schwartz; grandchildren, Sam, Teddy and Sally Fox, and Sofia Alonso-Taub. Peter was chairman of Atlas Industrial Contractors, Inc. He acquired Atlas Transfer Company 30 years ago and grew it into a nationally recognized industrial contracting company. It was his honor to serve on the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital Foundation Board. He also valued and supported the work of several non-profit organizations, including Flying Horse Farms, the United Way of Central Ohio, Columbus Jewish Federation, and Women's American ORT. Peter was born in New York City and grew up in Miami, Florida. He attended Miami Beach High School and was graduated from the University of Miami in 1964. He was the quintessential renaissance man, who had a zest for life. He most enjoyed his time spent with family and friends, sharing his passions for snow skiing, golf, scuba, any water sport... and of course The Ohio State Buckeyes. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 25 at TEMPLE ISRAEL, 5419 E. Broad St. with Rabbi Harold Berman and Rabbi Misha Zinkow officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens - Temple Israel section. Shiva will be observed at the Taub residence on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Peter Taub to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, 660 Ackerman Road, PO 183112, Columbus, Ohio 43218-3112. Online guestbook at www.epsteinmemorial.com

I just learned of Peter's passing and apologize for the delayed reaction. I had the great pleasure to work with Peter on a project four years ago. He gave me a chance to do an assignment, really a leap of faith for him. We ended up having success but I will forever remember the opportunity he gave me. In all of our dealings we was exceedingly gracious and honorable. I am very fortunate to have known him and wish his family only fond wishes, Fred O'Connor 9301 Hamlin Avenue, Evanston, IL 60203

So sorry to hear of Peter's passing. I was connected with Peter when he found out that I shared MCL with him as well as a love for OSU. While we never met as I am in Wisconsin, he was very supportive to me on the phone and helped me with my cancer journey. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Peter was such a wonderful guy who I always enjoyed seeing though it wasn't often during recent years. Peter never knew a stranger-I'm glad I knew him.

Dear Taub family,

I was so sad to hear the news about Peter. Having been a part of the Taub's life long ago when I babysat for Emily, Stephanie and Katie, Peter will be forever etched in my mind as as a happy, energetic, outgoing and enthusiastic father. And his legacy lives on in all of his children. Emily, Stephanie and Katie you have become such beautiful, grown up young women (I still have the CSG newletter photo from Emily's wedding). Clearly your Dad accomplished far more than most in this life. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I have known Peter for the past 11 years, as his daughter, Stephanie, is my sister-in-law & a BEST FRIEND of mine. I got to know Peter mostly from Family Birthday Parties, ect as he often came to Boston to spend time w/Steph, Jon, & his grandchildren. What I will remember Peter most for is his LOVE OF LIFE (& skiing); his passion, love, & support for his FAMILY; and his un-ending GIVING to others! I will never forget the kindness that Peter showed to my own Dad this past Spring, when he reached out to help my Dad find the Best Cancer Doctors & offered to have him stay at his own home in Columbus....all the while suffering thru his own illness.

Peter- Thank you for your kindness! I promise you that I will always & forever be there to love & support Stephanie. May you RIP. You will be deeply missed!

My thoughts, love, & prayers are with you- Cathy, Jacob, Gabrielle, Em, Steph, & Katie....My Love & support goes out to you all. Love You,
Di Fox (Gates Mills,OH & Bedford, NH)

In the more than 30 years I have known Peter, he was always a very caring and friendly person to everyone he met, especially his employees. Always a kind smile and a knowing way of helping out whenever he could. Peter's keen business insight and the earned respect and admiration from the people he worked with, separates him from most men I'll ever know. I am very proud and thankful to have known him and worked for him. My deepest sympathy to Cathy and the Taub family.

A Friend Who Knew Peter

September 24, 2011

Peter was so kind and full of life. We enjoyed a couple lunches and I marveled at his stories. As the previous tribute mentioned: Peter lived in the moment and his attention was focused on you as "that person" facing Peter...never people who were walking into the room that might have a higher station in life. This is why Peter's service to mankind was so appreciated -- he always placed others first. Our world desparately needs more Peter Taubs. May he rest in peace and may his family find comfort that Peter was respected and admired.

My sympathies goes out to Cathy and the family.
Peter is my mentor and my friend. I would not be who I am today if not for Peter's help and guidance. He has always given a helping hand to those who needed it. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him and by some who never new his name.
