Philip David Holdrieth born May 31, 1934, peacefully and "his way" on Independence Day, July 4. Son of late, Julius B and Aimee (Berry) Holdrieth. Also proceeded by his father and mother-in-law James and Olive McCarthy, oldest son Philip David, Jr., brother Jimmy and sister Marie Hahn. Survived by, "The one who first answered 'That will be alright', when I asked if I might kiss her goodnite." Mary Jean McCarthy; children Chris (Kimbol) Stroud, Cathy, Mark, Jeff, Molly (Scott) Dempsey, Laurie (Rob) Hawley, Jim (Sharon) Holdrieth; 18 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Graduate St. Charles Preparatory High School, 1951 and The Ohio State University, 1955. Veteran U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant, over 50 year member Columbus Board of Realtors. Dad established and directed Phil Holdrieth Realtors and Appraisal One Inc where he worked with dozens of office managers, secretaries, small business professionals, construction contractors, associates and peers including long time business associates, Tom Anders and Pete Hewetson whom dad had daily lunches with for over 50 years. Dad's reach personally and professionally was broad in mentoring, aiding, and assisting those whom he came in contact with in moving up "life's ladder". He reached out to waiters, waitresses, tenants, small contractors, casual acquaintances, loved ones, and ones of loved ones. Dad saw these souls for their highest potential. It was the simple and beautiful gifts in life that garnered his interests including a wide genre of reading, nature, fine dining, and travel, most especially his beloved Caribbean. Back in the days of the CB Radio, his handle was "The Family Man", although this was much more than just a handle, it was his way of life. Once in a letter, written to himself, regarding a life, he wrote, "Life will be difficult. Have a sense of humor. It will take you far! Enjoy-you are going to have a wonderful ride!" Friends may call 4-7 pm Monday at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home 403 East Broad St. Memorial Mass will be held 10 am Tuesday at Christ the King Church 2777 East Livingston Ave. Private burial to be held later. For all those who wish, you are more than welcome to wear Scarlet and Grey to any and all services. In lieu of flowers, charitable opportunities lie before you every day, "Get on it".
