Phillip D. Price

Price Dr. Phillip D. Price, age 51, of Powell, OH, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at home after a brief illness. A native of Medina, OH, he was born to the late Edgar and Jean Price and graduated from Medina High School, Class of 1981. Dr. Price graduated from Capital University in 1985 and was named Outstanding Medical School Candidate upon graduation. He entered The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1989, and completed his post graduate residency and post graduate internship in General Surgery at Mount Carmel Health. He then joined the Mount Carmel Medical Staff in 1994 and became a member of MidOhio Surgical Associates, Inc. During his career at Mount Carmel Health, was the Chairman of the Network Cancer Committee since 2010; Associate Trauma Director since 1999; Program Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program, 1995-2007; Vice Chair of the Mount Carmel West Department of Surgery from 2001-2002; and Director of Oncological Services since 2008. Dr. Price was instrumental in developing the Mount Carmel Bariatric Program and became the program's first bariatric surgeon and director. He was involved in physician wellness since completing his residency and was among the first in Ohio to have performed many advances laparoscopic procedures, and was known to be the first physician to perform the placement of a gastric stimulator robotically. Dr. Price was a Faculty Member of Mount Carmel Health Surgical Residency Program since 1994. In addition, he was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University, 2013-2015; Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Wright State, 2013-2015; Clinical Assistant Professor of General Surgery at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2012-2015. Dr. Price received the Distinguished Educator Award from the OSU College of Medicine in 2010, as well as the Outstanding Physician Educator Award from the Ohio University College of Medicine in 2011. He was named "Teacher of the Year" by the Mount Carmel surgical residency program multiple times. Dr. Price authored and published many peer reviewed articles and was a reviewer for the Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery and was a featured presenter on multiple surgical topics locally, nationally and internationally. Over the years Dr. Price dedicated himself to surgical excellence in cancer care. In 2011 he was named Cancer Liaison Physician at Mount Carmel Health System by the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Price was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for decades. First, as an Eagle Scout himself, and later as a merit badge counselor and assistant scoutmaster with his three sons. He was an accomplished bodybuilder and won Mr. Collegiate Ohio and placed in many other competitions. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 10 1/2 years, Brandie Price; and by his three loving sons, Brock Richard Price, Grant Winfield Price and Blake Carlton Price, all of Powell; and by his many friends and colleagues.
