Phillip Sbrochi Obituary

SBROCHI Phillip Joseph Sbrochi, 61, of Dublin, Oh., unexpectedly passed away on May 16, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo; his three beautiful children Marina, Peter and Frank; two grandchildren, Joe and Lindy Smith; his caring parents, Fausto and Anita; brother, Mark; and sister-in-law, Renee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Algisa and Matthew Skunza and Ray and Marylou Melchiorre; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He received a BS from The Ohio State University and an MBA from Capital University. Phil was an extremely determined and hardworking man who never complained. He began his nearly 3 decade-long banking career with Bank One in 1970, and 4 years later became the youngest Branch Manager in the history of the corporation at the time, continuing his climb through the corporate ranks to ultimately become Managing Director in Specialty Finance. Subsequently, Phil went on to become a consultant for many Midwestern banks and several other financial institutions, earlier this year joining United Midwest Savings Bank. Along the way he taught himself the secrets of cooking and creating exquisite dishes. It is still unknown where he developed his vast botanical knowledge, caring for his garden, growing his own spices and vegetables. His favorite relaxing pastime was to play golf, which he loved with great zeal and shared that hobby with many close friends and family members. Towards the end of his life, nothing lit up his face more than his grandchildren, who will very much miss their Paw-Paw. This unique man will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. (1/2 mile south of 270), where a Celebration of Life service will be on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Family will receive friends after the service at Wedgewood Golf and Country Club for lunch at 12 noon. To the Sbrochi family: Your husband, dad, brother, Paw-Paw and friend was a wonderful person who leaves a great legacy behind. Phil and I were colleagues at Bank One for many years and, along with several other employees, shared the same birthday (March 21). We laughed about our "21 Club" but it was always Phil who was first to call each of us on March 21 to say "Happy Birthday." He had a great wit, and was a cool, calm leader and mentor who helped build the careers of many. He created the foundation of a lending business that is now significant for Chase nationally. While this is a sad time, always be proud of his life and accomplishments and know that he was respected and well-liked by many. And know we'll always be thinking of him on March 21st!

Mark,
I was very saddened to learn of your brother Phil's passing. Although I never worked with him at Bank One, our paths did cross from time to time over the years. I'm sure that you and Phil played many rounds of golf together at the Riviera CC. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mark,
My condolences for the passing of your brother. I didn't really know him as well as I knew you, but do remember him many years ago when he hung out with Lee Pierce.

My deepest sympathies to the Sbrochi family. I actually met Phil when he first started working with City National Bank right out of college. I helped train him on the teller line! Of course he went on to a wonderful career in the financial industry. Very sad and shocking news.

Mary Jo,
I have fond memories of working with Phil at the old City National Bank. May the day soon come that your memories of knowing Phil will be greater than the pain of having lost him.

My deepest sympathy to the Sbrochi family. I first met Phil when I joined Bank One in 1983 from a NJ bank. He set a high standard for the new "kid" on the block and constantly reminded me that I "wasn't in NJ anymore." We had a challenging and exciting relationship based on mutual respect. As I moved on to other positions in the bank, I missed the daily contact with Phil. I lost track of him after taking early retirement and moving on to a consulting role myself. I was shocked and sadden to hear this news.

Mary Jo - I am very sad to have recieved this news. My thoughts and prayers go to you and your family. Phil taught me the banking business, working with him for over 15 years. I left Bank One in 1994, but continued to run into friends and colleges that spoke highly of the learning experiences we all had with Phil. He will be missed by many...

May 18, 2009 I was so very shocked to learn of Phil's passing. Only recently did he and I find each other on the internet. We worked together at Bank One for many, many years. I always considered Phil a gentleman and an upstanding citizen. My condolences to Mary Jo and the family.

Very sad to get this news. Phil was very bright and devoted to his work. Now retired but having joined Bank One more than 22 years ago I met Phil early on. My condolences to Phil's family and regret I cannot be in Ohio this week.
