Raymond Shipley Obituary

Shipley, Raymond
Raymond Eugene Shipley, age 93, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 22, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. Born in 1924, the son of Dewey and Nora Shipley. He graduated from Fairfield High School. He was a loving father and faithful member of the caring Maranatha Community Fellowship. Raymond farmed till the age of 80. He was a member of a local wood working club, led a 4H club many years and helped roast the first "ox" at the West Jefferson Ox Roast in 1951 as a member of the Business Men's Association. Raymond had a love and talent for woodcraft. A skilled hunter and fisherman, he also spent numerous hours scouring the fields of Madison County finding arrowheads and knew every spot on the farm for morels and black raspberries. Raymond was referred to as "the Wizard" among family for his ability to diagnose any motor repair from his living room chair…and be right every time. We will miss him. He is survived by his four children, Deborah, Jeffrey, Ross, and Laura; grandchildren, Sarah, Sam, Halley, Clayton, Roscoe, and Maxwell; great grandchildren, Aiden, Gus and Julian; one sister, Reba; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Miriam Shipley, his parents and siblings Robert, Rowena and Ralph. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 3pm at Maranatha Community Fellowship, 6240 Lucas Rd, Plain City, OH 43064. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Maranatha. Arrangements are being handled by RADER-McDONALD-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. MAIN ST., WEST JEFFERSON, OH 43162. Debbie, Jeff, Laura, Ross,
I remember your father as a very important part of my growing up years through the fun times of hay rides and parties at your family farm. I offer my condolences and prayers for all of you. Ray Shipley was a really good man and I am sure he will be missed by many.
Take care.

I will miss that Shipley laugh, smile and that unique voice. My best memories of a pipe, a huge forest green car with tall fins in the back and riding in that car down the long gravel lane at what seemed to be 100 mph. He and my aunt were just GOOD people. He will be greatly missed.
