Robert Jones Obituary

JONES Robert R. Jones, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, October 5, 2010. Bob was born in Columbus, Ohio, May 3, 1927, and lived in Clintonville all his remarkable life. He retired after 40 years from Ranco Industries. Bob spent many years in his younger days coaching and molding young men in baseball, football, and life. The Warhawks baseball teams and Clintonville Lions football teams were two of his most precious endeavors. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran. Many people have seen first hand his amazing talent as a skilled woodworker. A 1945 graduate of North High School, Bob attended both Franklin University and The Ohio State University. To say he was a fan of the Buckeyes would be an understatement. His going away has taken the wind out of our sails, especially of his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara Smith Jones. Bob is also survived by his daughter, Darcy (Bill) Hoffman; son, Bradford (Chris) Jones; and grandsons, Bradley and Brian Jones. Also surviving are his brother, Ronald (Shirley) Jones. Visitors may greet the family at WEIR-AREND FUNERAL HOME, 4221 N. High St., 3 blocks south of Henderson Rd. from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, October 7. Service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday, October 8, where friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the charity of your choice.

Barb, Brad and Darcy,
I was so sorry to just hear of the passing of your beloved husband and father. I have so many fond memories of him and your family. I had the privilege of knowing him personally and professionally. I thank him for getting me on the right track in my career by giving me a start at Ranco in purchasing. He was a very fine man who left a positive impact on the people who had the privilege to know him. He will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to you all.

Barb, Darc, Brad and Family: I am truly saddened to hear about the passing of Bob. Bob had such a positive impact on my life coaching me on the Clintonville Lions and the Whetstone Recreation baseball teams or just being at your house on the Blvd., wresting Brad and I together in the living room (and winning). Bob has passed on in life, but he will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Robert "Coach" Jones was truly a legend during his time in this life. He inspired thousands of people over the decades. He didn't have to say much about himself for his actions expressed honor, courage, dedication and generosity. Bob was a great humanitarian who will live in the hearts of all who knew him
