Robert Powers Obituary

POWERS Robert "Bob" Powers, WWII Army Veteran, 85, died Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice (Sullivan) Powers, parents William J. and Sarah (Markley) Powers, brothers William E. and James, sister Dorothy, son-in-law Brad Brown. He is survived by daughters, Kathleen (Mark) Welsh of Hilliard, Sharon Brown of Galloway; grandchildren, Colleen (Alex) Knapp, Brian Welsh, Connor and Bridget Brown; several nieces and nephews. Bob was retired from Goodyear Plymouth Chrysler Dodge after 38 years of service and from London High School where he served as golf coach for 8 years. Bob was an avid golfer and 21 time club champion at the London Country Club and had played over 75,000 holes of golf in the last 10 years alone. It was on the golf course that he took his last breath after parring the first hole. Bob was inducted into the London High School Hall Of Fame in 1998 and was awarded the Four Way Test Award in 2009 from The London Rotary Club for volunteerism. Bob was an active member of Saint Patrick Church and was in charge of usher selections for the past 40 years, was a Eucharistic minister and current member of the Bereavement Committee. The family invites friends to call at Saint Patrick Church Parish Center, Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a wake service to be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at the church on Friday, 10 a.m. with Father Mark Ghiloni officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Saint Patrick Church or to Madison County Hospital Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the church. The family has entrusted Bob's funeral arrangements to the RADER-LYNCH AND DODDS FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. High St., London.

Sharon, Kathy and families,
I'm saddened to hear about Bob, I worked for him for many years and I truly admired him. I would run into him now and then and I would so much enjoy talking to him. He would always talk about all of you and it was obvious how proud he was of his family. I will miss him and please know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you through this very difficult time.
