Bob was one of my favorite people in the whole world - both a mentor and a real friend, and I am so very sad to learn of his passing. He was just such a wonderful, wonderful person. I will miss him so very much, but I will never forget him.

Dear Shamansky's,
Bob had a small but wonderful role in the lives of my children (now grown). They would encounter one-another briefly on various occasions and their conversations would turn to politics, compassion or unusual places in the world. His love of learning, compassion for people, appreciation for other cultures and depth of experience caused him to be one of those people that made others just a little smarter, a little better and a little bit more inspired than they were before. It is a loss knowing that there will be no more "chance meetings" with Mr. Shamansky.

My wife Tasi and I were painfully shocked and saddened by the news of Robert's passing while we were in Crete, Greece. Bob was a great customer in our restaurant and a great friend to us as well. We will truly miss his honest critique of our cuisine and his lucid insight into the problems of the world.

How many ways Bob was a joy in our lives. We laughed, we debated, we shared tales and travels, we discussed endless topics, we found common values (although not always similar political convictions!.)
We loved the same music and valued all the ways it was present in the community.
How amazing we found his continued pursuit of physical fitness - more evidence of his pursuit of excellence.

Personally, I look upon him as one of the people who, in my younger years, taught me how to think in such interesting ways, with greater acuity and greater breadth so we could share every topic with facility and humor. His was a brain that never rested. He did not "do" boring!

We broke bread often and always enjoyed the tastiest that Columbus had to offer.

What a void there will be in our lives. But how fortunate we were to have know such a fine man.

Our love to his family. We share you sadness and loss.

Bob Shamansky was a unique and wonderful person. Bob's classic Eastern dress and demeanor were a constant from the 1960s to the present. I used to tease him about being a liberal New York Times person as he would always be reading the Times in the morning. I enjoyed his wit, opinions, and knowledge. Bob made Columbus a better place. Condolences to his friends and family.

It has been my privilege to work with Bob recently on a project of exploring the possibility of collecting Judaic art at the Columbus Museum of Art. Through his genorosity, the Museum will present a Jewish treasures program in October.
