Ruth Smith Obituary

SMITH Ruth Thym Smith, age 88, of Gahanna, Ohio, died peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2008. She was a native of St. Louis, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School, she received a BA from Washington University, (Pi Beta Phi Sorority) and she received her MA from University of Evansville in Evansville IN. She taught 3rd grade in the Piqua City Schools for 24 years. She was awarded the Eaglette Scout Award from The Girl Scouts. She is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Warren G. Smith, brothers Adolph Thym and Louis J. "Boots" Thym and a great-great nephew Finbar Thym Ryan. She is survived by her son, Thym Smith of Wilmington, Delaware; daughters, Warrene Smith and Elizabeth (Dr. Robert Zaino) Smith; grandchildren, Katie Smith, Stephen Smith, Abigail Zaino and Sarah Zaino; niece, Sally Thym Tucker; great-niece, Amy (Andy) Tucker Ryan. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 East Johnstown Road, Gahanna. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4456 Morse Road, with Pastor Steve Brown, officiating. Private family interment. Contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. Luke Lutheran Church in her memory.
