Satch Davidson

DAVIDSON Satch Davidson, former National League baseball umpire, died suddenly on Saturday, August 21, 2010, in Houston, Texas. Formerly of London, Ohio, Satch had lived in Houston for the past 27 years. Satch was promoted to the major leagues after having spent only three years in the minors. No other umpire has been promoted as rapidly. Some of Satch's career highlights include: working in five no hit games, including back to back no hitters, working behind the plate in the sixth game of the 1975 World Series which lasted twelve innings and has been called one of the single most exciting sports events in history and working behind the plate when Hank Aaron's home run broke Babe Ruth's record. Throughout his career, Satch worked in a mini-series playoff, three championship playoffs, two World Series and the Bicentennial year All Star Game. He was inducted into the London Ohio Atheltic Hall of Fame and the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005. Along with his career as a professional baseball umpire, Satch worked during the winter months as a basketball official for Ohio high schools and colleges. Satch is survived by his wife, Lynne; and his four children, Pam (Steve) Berry, Peggy Lohr, Phyllis (Dale) Reed and Paul (Sue) Davidson; five grandchildren, Brad Lohr, Nevada Jones, Zachary Lohr, Jordon Reed and Madelyn Reed. He will be missed by his family and many good friends. Memorial services in Houston are pending. Donations in Satch's name may be made to the London (OH) Area Baseball Council or a charity of choice.
