Sophia Kontras Obituary
1924 - 2018
On February 25, 2018, Sophia Kontras, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 93. Sophia was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 31, 1924. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in music education after receiving a full scholarship to pursue her great love of singing. Sophia is preceded in death by William, her husband of 67 years, sister Olympia and brothers Nick, John, Jim and Pete. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Nicholas and Agni Kontras, Valerie and Paul Olson, and William and Denise Kontras; as well as 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Friends and family may visit Friday, March 2, from 6:30-8 p.m. at O. R. WOODYARD NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 2990 Bethel Rd., where funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all of the friends and family who were such a loving part of Sophia's life and were giving of their time and presence to contribute to her quality of life during the past few years.

Nick, Valerie and Bill,
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Not sure if you remember me, but Bill and I were playmates when we were kids and Valerie taught my sisters, Marie (deceased) and Marilyn piano lessons.
I remember Mrs. Kontras as one of the most gentle and kind persons I'd ever met.
My heartfelt condolences to each of you.

To Nick, Valerie, William, and Kontras family,
I cherish the times and experience as a teenager having had your Mother as our wonderful church choir director in the mid 60's. My brother, Anthony, a few days ago sent me a group picture of our church choir...sincerely touched my soul to see all of us again. Sincere thanks to all our Mothers who relentlessly gave their time to make sure we had the opportunity to experience our orthodox religion through choirs, clubs, alter duty, church sports, greek school, holiday services, jr. choirs, and church community events.
May God bless all our Mothers forever,unto the ages of all ages.
Lastly, We were the fortunate one's to be in their lives...Eonia Emnime...Mrs. Sophie Kontras and to all ...

To Nick, Valerie, and Billy, I extend my deepest sympathy to you and to your families. I will always be grateful for the life of your mother, a wonderful aunt who has given me such fond memories of home made date nut bars, Lake Erie fishing trips, and that beautiful smile as she always took a sincere interest in me as a young person. Her memory will always be treasured.

To the Kontras Family, I send my love and note my sadness at the news of Sophia's passing. She was a wonderful church choir director, mother of three smart West High grads, a friend to my parents and a sweet, gentle lady I will always fondly remember. May her memory be immortal.
