1956 - 2017
Stephen "Steve" C. Martin, 61, devoted member of Genoa Baptist Church, went home to be with the Lord on 11/30/2017 at his home in Westerville, OH. Survived by his wife and caregiver of 37 years, Belinda; and daughters, Sarah (Korey) Kincade of Grove City, Rhonda (Jason) Litton of Delaware, and Sarah Carletti of MA; grandsons, Mason and Bennett Kincade; and faithful canine companions, Amos and Andy. Preceded in death by his parents William Clay and Mary Eva (Goff) Martin. Steve was born in Dallas, TX and was Valedictorian of the 1974 class of Dunbar High School, WV. He graduated in 1976 from the Ohio Technical Institute with a degree in Field Engineering, and worked in computer repair services. Most recently, he worked for Solutions Thru Software (Medicine Hat, Canada) providing IT support. A member of Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary since 2011, Steve was recently promoted to Captain, and the recipient of the Duffy and Excellence in Service awards. Hobbies included fixing anything his wife could break, gardening, grilling and cooking, riding roller coasters, and home construction/remodeling. He recently designed and built a retirement home for him and his wife in Vinton County, which they named the Haven of Peace; he took great pride in his craftsmanship. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt Carmel Hospice, Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary Foundation, or Genoa Baptist Church. Thank you to friends and family who have been so loving and supportive during this time. And a special thank you to Tito Delpin for his priceless help that has given us such peace. Services will be held at Genoa Baptist Church, 7562 Lewis Center Rd, Westerville, OH 43082, on Sunday, 12/03/17 – visitation 1:30-4 pm, service at 4 pm. Greg and I want to extend our condolences to you and your children. I will always remember Steve picking up the flag/banners at CTK during some of our best worship services and walking around with them. He was truly a Godly man and a great person. I'm sure he will be missed by many.

Steve rode with me frequently when I broke in on midnights at the Mount Gilead Post. I always had a lot of fun working with him. I think this one was the most memorable to him.
So we stopped a car in the middle of nowhere Morrow County for failing to drive on the right side of the road at like 2AM. There were three people in the car and the smell of alcoholic beverages came pouring out the second the driver rolled down the window. I checked the driver, ran him through fields, and he was, of course, drunk. So we hooked him up and put him in the back of the cruiser. Now we had to decide what to do with the drunk guy in the front seat and the passed out woman in the back. Drunk front seat guy explained the woman is his wife and the driver is his brother and they live around the corner (it ended up being a ten-minute drive "around the corner"). So he woke up his wife, she was naturally super confused about what's going on, and we explained that we were going to take them home and then take the driver to the sheriff's office. Then she goes to get into the backseat of the cruiser and immediately whips back around, eyes huge, and a horrified look on her face and exclaimed: "There's already someone in there!" Steve and I managed to keep a straight face, but meanwhile, her husband was roaring laughing.
Later I'm sure we got McDonalds breakfast like we usually did when we found a drunk.
I'm sorry for your loss. He will be missed.

Belinda, Sarah, and Rhonda, I just want to extend my sincere condolences to each of you. I never had the pleasure of meeting Stephen but I know he must have been such a huge influence and wonderful husband and dad. The three of you are among the finest people I ever worked with and I'm sure Stephen so enjoyed your companionship and love.

I used to sit behind Steve at CTK on Weds and Sunday night. His stories always helped increase my faith. Sorry for the loss of such a good man. But we know where he is.
