Thomas Fischer Obituary

FISCHER Thomas Michael Fischer, 64, passed away at Forest Hills Care Center on September 3, 2011. His long journey with Alzheimer's helped to increase awareness of the disease and support to find a cure. Preceded in death by parents Ruth (Emrich) and Bob Fischer, and brother James Fischer. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan; children, Jason Fischer, Todd (Judie) Fischer, and Mindy (Steve) Porter; four grandchildren: Jack and George Porter and Nathan Thomas and Emily Fischer; sister, Donna (Ed) Shute; niece, Kristina (Todd) Dulworth; nephew, Gregory Shute; and a very special family of friends. Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of children and friends. He served on the board of the Walnut Heights Youth Athletic Association and proudly coached soccer, t-ball and baseball from 1978-1989. He especially enjoyed music, golfing, spending time with friends, and the privilege of being in the Alzheimer's zoo group. He served the public at Fischer Parking, Sixth and Oak Streets, for 34 years and at The Columbus Dispatch, Crosswind Drive, for five years. The Central Ohio Alzheimer's Association's support has been heartfelt and the Forest Hills Care Center administration and staff, especially Gail Greenly, are thanked for welcoming Tom into their family of residents and caring for him with love. The family will receive friends Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MAEDER QUINT TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High St. Prayer Service 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 3730 Broadway, Grove City. Father Daniel Millisor, celebrant. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Tom Fischer to Forest Hills Care Center, 2841 E. Joan and family, so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember Tom arriving home every night from the parking lot and he would beep his horn. He was a very nice, friendly guy. We will miss him. Take care, and may God bless you..

Joan, I'm so sorry I was unable to attend the calling hours last Thursday. I was unable to get out of school until almost 4 and had both of the boys (Brayden and Liam) on my own that night. I was thinking of you and your kids. Tommy will be missed...he was one of my favorite adult cousins. :) Love-Jessica (Herderick) Burgess

Joanie, I was sad to hear about Tom but I do know how much he will be at peace and no more of that terrible disease....He will be greeted at the gates with his mom and dad and all of his other loved ones and especially his Uncle Clyde, Uncle Ralph and Aunt Roberta who have also moved on to their next "everlasting Life"....I rememebr his great smile and always so happy..and also those great "Easter egg Hunts" at Uncle Bob and Aunt Ruth's home next to grandma's house Anne Emrich....when we were just little kids ourselves...it just seems like a few years ago.....HE was and will always be rembered as a great man...Our love and prayers will be with you! Sincerely, Renee (Emrich) Barger and family xoxo
