"Now grant rest, O Lord, to the soul of your departed servant, Thomas, in a place of light, joy and peace where there is no pain, sorrow, nor mourning . . ." - from the Byzantine Catholic Memorial Service for the Faithful Departed.
The world is a little less bright without you in it, but heaven has gained more radience!

Karen Porta let me know of Mr. Tykodi's passing. The following is an excerpt of my reply to her:
As I look back on high school now through many years I still recall some faculty I remember with special fondness for their kindness and for their seeing more in me than I was able to see at the time. Mr. Tykodi was one of them who beyond his native kindness handed me challenging problems in algebra II and later found a way for me to learn calculus even though it was not taught and he didn't feel up to teaching it. I recall your saying he was having health problems, and am reminded of a line from Dylan Thomas, " ...When like a running grave time tracks you down" that none of us escape our mortality. He lived a long life; I like to think his kindness and humanity bespoke an inner peace that made his long life a joyful one. May he rest in peace.

I taught math with Tom for several years at Whitehall-Yearling High School. Although I had been teaching 10 years when Tom came back to Whitehall from Bexley, I always considered him a mentor. He was always willing to offer me help and support and he got me through some rough times. He always had a positive attitude. Tom was known among the staff as a true gentleman. The world is a better place for having been blessed with Tom!

I was in Mr. Tykodi's 9th period algebra class when word came that President Kennedy had been killed. Mr. T was a very nice and fair teacher. Math was a very difficult subject for me and I just didn't get it. He graciously passed me with a D and suggested that if I did not plan on going to college that I not take any more math. May your memories be a comfort to you. Sincerely, Connie Cobb Ambos 67

I have so many good memories of Tom. I only taught with him for 3 years, but in that short time I learned so much from him. I will always remember his smile. My thoughts and prayers are with all of him friends and family during this difficult time, but his love and wisdom lives on in all the lives he touched.
