William Scott Obituary

Scott William C. Scott, 85, after a life well lived, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2017 at his home in Worthington, OH, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born on October 24, 1931, in Waverly, OH. He graduated from Waverly High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Iceland and at Moses Lake AFB, WA during the Korean War. He returned to attend Denison University in Granville, OH and then graduated with a B.S. degree in banking and political science and a M.S. degree in finance from The Ohio State University. He began his business career at Huntington National Bank, where he was director of consumer lending and a bank officer. During his career, he served as president of several banks in California, Florida, Michigan and Ohio. At the close of his banking career, he began a new career in the securities industry, where he focused on developing individual pension portfolios. This passion led to his becoming senior vice president at Prudential, where he retired. Bill married Jody Smith of Upper Arlington, Oh and they lived a dedicated and adventurous life with their children Margaret Jane "Meg", Andrew Markham and Markham Randall Scott. Bill shared his love of books, history, world travel and cooking with his family, and his love of international volunteer mission work with First Community Church. After the death of his beloved wife Jody, Bill moved to San Francisco, CA, where he met his second wife, Jan Shadoff, of Lake Tahoe, CA. They spent his remaining years engaged in the life and activities they both loved. Bill is preceded in death by his parents George Shermann and Mary Durham Scott, sister Norma Jean Foster and brother-in-law William Foster of Waverly. He is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter, Meg (Dan) and grandson, Matthew Best of Bellingham, WA; son, Andy (Kari) and grandchildren, Samantha and Ian Scott of Hilliard, OH; son, Mark (Susan) and granddaughters, Lila and Lucy Scott, of Portland, OR. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Daniel (Suzanne) Smith, of Upper Arlington, OH; and sister-in-law, Sandy Wilson Smith of Dublin, OH. Bill chose to donate his remains to further science at The Ohio State University. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Burkhart Chapel, First Community Church, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Pickaway County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 3, Circleville, OH 43113.

It was a privilege to have known Bill. Even though I only got to share a small portion of his wonderful life, I will never forget his smile, his kindness and the love he had for his dear and caring wife, Jan, who was there for him every day. My condolences to all his family.
