Archie Mitchell Obituary

Archie McBride Mitchell, 66, of Booneville, Mississippi, passed away on December 17, 2025, after a brief illness. He spent his final weeks in Nashville in his daughter's care, though everyone knew he'd rather have been back home, soaking up the simple peace of the place he loved.

To those closest to him, he was simply Mac, a name that matched his easy grin and laid-back humor.

Born on May 26, 1959, Mac was the son of the late Archie Street Mitchell and Evelyn Corinne DeLozier Mitchell. He grew up in a lively household with four siblings who loved one another deeply and carried that connection throughout their lives. His mother doted on him in the way only she could and people often told him he was just like his father, and he loved to hear that, even if it wasn't intended as a compliment.

Mac worked his whole life with people who became true friends. He kept things simple and loved a good laugh, a harmless prank, and not taking life too seriously.

He loved being outdoors more than anywhere else. He cherished fishing and camping with his father and some of his best days were spent at the barn or riding through the cattle pastures with his father-in-law. His family could always count on him to choose patio furniture over a perfectly good bed on vacation. He cherished the Sundays spent visiting with his dad at 103 Mitchell Street, trading stories and looking out at the pecan trees. These were the moments that stayed with him.

We know he's now in a place much like those he loved: quiet, peaceful with fresh air, and held in the care of the Lord.

He was devoted to his daughters, Misty Mitchell (Joe Krum) and Lacie Northcutt (Brad), and to their son, Eli. He never missed a chance to brag on his girls, and he was deeply proud of them. He knew how tremendously he was loved in return, and he leaves them with a void that can never be filled.

Mac is survived by his siblings: George Mitchell; Sam Mitchell (Janice); Clara Owens; and Lee Robertson (Dale) as well as his sisters-in-law, Judith Perrigo (Don) and Toni Hatfield (Mike), and his mother-in-law, Judy Jumper. He is now at rest with his parents; his father-in-law, Dennis Jumper; his sister-in-law, Tracy Mitchell; and his brothers-in-law, Earl Owens and Merle Jumper.

He loved his nieces and nephews, who cherished their Uncle Mac: Shawn Perrigo, Samantha Perrigo, Josh Hatfield, Jud Hatfield, Jonathon Hatfield, Tori Mitchell Horne, Marc Mitchell, Drew Mitchell, Alyson Dickerson, Amy Baker, Casey Robertson, and Cody Robertson. He adored all of his great-nieces and great-nephews. Some of his favorite moments were the beach trips with "the kids"-Anne Campbell, Luna Claire, Evie, Gunner, and Reagan-who kept him laughing and entertained.

Mac found joy in the simple things. He loved Mississippi State football, even during the losing streaks when they'd run it up the middle every time. He enjoyed having season tickets with his brother Sam and hoping Lee would sneak him ice cream from the press box. He took pride in finding the closest parking spot at games, even when it wasn't legal. He loved family trips to the Gulf with everyone piled into one house. He kept tabs on his people by tracking their locations on his phone, especially his siblings Clara and George. He spent most days doing what he loved, like sitting outside and catching up with neighbors who felt like family.

The family will host a casual drop-in visitation on Friday, December 19, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Green Door (202 West Market Street, Booneville, MS). In true Mac fashion, nothing formal is expected; friends and family are invited to come just as they are, share stories, and visit with his loved ones.

The family will also hold a memorial in the near future, outdoors, where loved ones can gather and lay him to rest in a peaceful place.

In lieu of flowers, honor Mac by enjoying the simple joys he loved:

Go fishing with your dad.

Sit on a beach with a margarita that is way too strong.

Share some food with a neighbor.

Pet a dog and pretend you don't like that dog.

Compliment your mother-in-law on her cooking.

Drive a backroad slower than anyone thinks you should.

Enjoy a cup of coffee with your son-in-law.

Do something ridiculous for someone you love, like driving a golf cart across a six-lane highway to get your great-nephew the fishing tackle he asked for.

Fall asleep outside.

Tell Alexa to play your favorite song on repeat.

Call your sibling or your sister-in-law. And when you hang up, if you think of something else to say, call him back a few times.

Tell your sister she's just like your mother and mean it in the absolute best way.

Tell your adult nephew he turned into a really good boy.

Do something to make your mother proud.

Brag on the people you love.

Wear sunglasses indoors, even if your daughter tells you not to.

Let time pass slowly, sitting on your front porch, shooting flies with a salt gun.

Teach a little kid a slightly inappropriate nursery rhyme, then pretend you don't know where they learned it.

These were the things he lived for and the things he'd want us to carry forward.

I worked with him at heartland building products. He always had a joke to tell. A story of things in the past, which was always hilarious, that´s how I will will remember Mac. I never will forget him and the good times we had even when we were working hard.
