William Allen Hannaford, known affectionately by friends and family as Bill, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at his residence in
New Albany, MS. Born on June 22, 1933, in Calhoun City, MS, Bill's journey through life was marked by his kindheartedness, resourcefulness, and a deep-set passion for giving back to those around him.
Bill honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy. After his military service, he found his calling with the Soil Conservation Service, where he dedicated many years before retiring. His commitment to his work was surpassed only by the love and devotion he held for his family and community.
A true family man, Bill was a loving father to his two sons, Michael Hannaford and Kim Hannaford (Katie). He was a cherished brother to James Hannaford (Jan) and was predeceased by his parents, William James and Ivy Idell Ruth Hannaford, his caring wife Doris Jeanette Hamilton Hannaford, and his brother Bobby Hannaford. Bill's legacy extends through his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, for whom he was a source of boundless love and inspiration.
Known as one of "the last of the true southern gentlemen", Bill's big heart was reflected in his constant desire to help others. His home was often filled with the sounds of creation, as he indulged in his passion for gardening and woodworking. He found solace in the simplicity of fishing, but it was his creative spirit that truly shined through the intricate birdhouses, pergolas, and countless other projects he built, not for himself, but for the benefit of friends and neighbors. in need.
Described by many as kind, handy, and creative, Bill's passing leaves behind a void in the community he helped shape with his generous spirit. His hand-crafted gifts dot the gardens and homes of those who knew him, standing as a testament to a man who not only built with his hands but also constructed a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and altruism.
As we celebrate the life of William Allen Hannaford, we reflect on the profound impact of a man whose existence was a testament to the timeless values of kindness, creativity, and community service. Bill's memory will be cherished and upheld by all who had the privilege to know him and be touched by his remarkable presence.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026 with all times at United Funeral Service. Bro. Mark Nail and Bro. Noah Whitehead will officiate. Burial will be at Reedy's Chapel Cemetery in Calhoun City, MS.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hannaford, David Hannaford, Kim Hannaford, James Hannaford, Chris Hannaford, and Steve Hannaford. The American Legion Post 72 will conduct military honors and serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family request that memorial donations be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which Mr. Bill was always faithful to support.
