Bobbye Carsten Obituary

Bobbye T. Carsten, 90, died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was born on October 25, 1933, in Memphis, TN, to James and Lacey Thomas. After graduating from Memphis State University with a degree in music education, she moved to RAF Sculthorpe, England, where she met and married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Carsten. After they returned to the United States, she immersed herself in what gave her the greatest joy: caring for her family, teaching children, and music-all kinds, anytime, anywhere.

Bobbye lived a life of fierce curiosity, faithful generosity, and a rich sense of adventure. Her home was filled with laughter, love, welcome, and music. Nothing made her happier than unlocking the wonders of education for children of all ages.

Bobbye is survived by her children, Rebecca Hampton (Bill), Elizabeth Langston (Rick), Nancy Barrett (Dennis), James Carsten (Emily); her eleven grandchildren, Kelly Yarbrough (Mike), Emily Marcinowski, Beau Carsten (Becky), Ben Carsten (Brett), Julianna Langston (Sean), Amy Langston, Marianna Barrett, Brent Carsten, Bryce Carsten, Carrie Barrett (Gabriel), and Breely Carsten; and eight great-grandchildren, Devon, Lily, Abigail, Katie, Bradley, Emma Jayne, Matthew, and Strick. Also surviving is her brother James (Harriett) of Germantown, TN, her sister-in-law, Lucinda McCoy of Stillwater, OK, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, her parents, and her grandson, Charlie.

Her family would like to thank Tammy and Glenda for their devoted care of "Miss Bobbye" throughout the final years of her life.
