Brett Moyer Obituary

He lived a life of service to others and cut a wide path in his 53 year earthly pilgrimage. Brett Alan Moyer was born on October 13, 1969 in the Loring Air Force Base Hospital in Limestone, Maine to the late Lynn George Moyer and Donna Anthony Moyer, who survives. He departed his life from his Tupelo residence early on Friday morning, Feb. 17, 2023. The son of a career Air Force veteran, his Dad was his hero and mentor. After living in several locations around the country and graduating from Pemberton High School in Pemberton, New Jersey, Brett followed in his dad's footsteps and joined the U. S. Air Force serving his nation stateside for 9 years. A devoutly patriotic American citizen always putting country first, Brett used his military police training and education and left his last assignment at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi and became a permanent "Mississippian" in l999. Except for a brief period of time serving as a deputy in Polk County, Florida, Captain Moyer made Tupelo his home and joined the Tupelo Police Department where he was a much beloved and respected officer for almost 24 years. Just recently being promoted to Captain, Officer Moyer was a force of nature within the TPD family. His towering personality, his devotion to unbiased law enforcement and his sense of fairness made him an example among his peers and to the citizens of Tupelo. Blessed with a booming voice and a larger than life persona, he was always the life of the party and loved to grill for family and friends , ride Harley's with his wife, Amber including membership in the Defender's Motorcycle Club, go to the Gym to do what he was a master of, socializing- and joy riding in the '65 Mustang that was a gift from his wife. He was a special Dad to Kirsten and Hannah, a faithful husband to Amber, the perfect son to Donna, a special brother to Kimberly and the most devoted sports fan in the country of Pittsburg sports teams, esp. the Pittsburg Steelers. In death as in life, Brett was a giver. As an organ donor, approximately 70 people will benefit from his special generosity. The legacy of his all too brief journey amongst us will be that of a lighthouse for law officers and for all those wishing to live a purpose filled life.

A service, with Air Force Honors and Law Enforcement Honors, will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023 from Hope Church on McCullough Boulevard in Tupelo with burial to follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Pastor Terry Ledbetter will conduct the service. Chief John Quaka, TPD will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be from 10 AM-service time on Tuesday at Hope Church For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at Holland Funeral Directors Facebook at 11 AM Tuesday.

The Captain is survived by his wife, Amber Vasquez Moyer of Tupelo, to whom he married on April 3, 2007 in Jamaica; his daughters, Kirsten Kole Moyer and Hannah Flake; his mother, Donna Moyer of Tupelo; his grandmother, Maurine Anthony of Strauss Town, Pennsylvania; his sister, Kimberly Moyer of Browns Mill, NJ; his, niece, Courtney McLaren of Shanong, NJ and her children, Liam and Harper and his nephew, Kyle Carlson of East Winsor, NJ.; his in laws, Bob and Tena Vasquez of Ripley, MS.; his law enforcement family and multiple friends around the county.

Pallbearers will be the Tupelo Police Department Edward shift. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow law enforcement officers.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Tupelo Veteran's Park, P. O. Box 3608, Tupelo, MS. 38803, in honor of all who served and those who gave their lives to insure our country's freedom.
