Carolyn Jackson Obituary

Carolyn Wallis Jackson, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at Landmark Nursing Home in Booneville, MS. She was born on February 11, 1935, to Pearl Guy and Dalton Thomas Wallis of Booneville, MS. She graduated from Jumpertown High School in 1952 and attended Northeast Mississippi Community College. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Delta State University in 1956.

She had a distinguished teaching career as an inspirational English teacher spanning thirty-eight years. She taught at Marks, Falkner, Rienzi, Jumpertown, and Booneville. She was a much-loved educator and received the Star Teacher Award numerous times.

Never one to be idle, after retirement Carolyn began her second career as a Children's Librarian at the Lee County Library. For the next ten years, she instilled a love of reading in future generations.

Carolyn was a faithful member of Booneville First Methodist Church. She prided herself on being a lifelong Methodist. She was a past member of the Chancel Choir, the Administrative Council, the Berean Sunday School Class, and Circle 4 of the United Methodist Women. She also served as Church Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and study group leader for various groups. If the doors of the church were open, Carolyn was usually there.

Carolyn was a member of the Booneville Pilot Club and Kappa Kappa Iota Teacher's Sorority, serving as President of both organizations numerous times.

She was an avid walker, logging more than five miles a day-even after turning 90. A voracious reader, she would often read a book a day.

Carolyn's greatest joy was being a mother to her three children and "Mubby" to her four grandchildren. She supported them in all their endeavors and showered them with unconditional love.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Calvin G. "Roddy" Jackson of Booneville, MS; her son, Tommy Green of Tupelo, MS; her daughters, Rose Anne Parker (Eddie) of Memphis, TN, and Leigh Carol Neelly (Ed) of Madison, MS; and her grandchildren, Mary Dalton Parker (fiancé Randy Smith), Caroline Parker, Anne Thomas Green, and Wallis Jackson Neelly.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a special aunt, Emily Wallis Green.

Pallbearers will be Bob Galloway, Wade Oaks, Tony Presley, Phil Purvis, Ken Shackelford, and Greg Sparks.

Services to honor her life will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Booneville First Methodist Church with Rev. Trey Lambert officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Booneville Methodist Church, 400 West Church Street, Booneville, MS 38829, or to a charity of your choice.
