Daniel Collins Obituary
Daniel Wayne Collins (Danny) was born February 25, 1956, in Greenwood, MS. He passed away on July 22, 2024, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo after a terminal diagnosis.
Danny was a free spirit and enjoyed his coffee, books, and MSNBC news. Danny loved to travel the country and overseas. He went to England, France, and Germany in the 1980's. Danny had a deep love for nature and animals which he shared with his long-time soulmate and wife, Mary Jane Logan Collins, who just weeks ago preceded him in death. They had many plans of helping watch after MJ's elderly parents, enjoying their cats, sitting by their pond at their new home in Saltillo, MS., reading books and talking, and enjoying their retirement. Danny worked many years with the State of MS DOT and retired several years ago. Danny was a son, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, a best friend, and a devoted husband. He made everyone he came in contact with feel loved and special. He would give kisses and head butts to show his affection. He was generous with his "I love yous". As silly as it seemed at the time it is now a priceless memory. Danny shared a long-time friendship with Zane Hodge from Greenwood who passed away within the last year. Danny was heartbroken about Zane's passing because of their good friendship and many talks over breakfast about books and politics. Their favorite breakfast spot was a little gas station near Black Hawk in Carroll County. He also spoke highly of his cousins Dewayne Weed, Bruce Jenkins, and Billy Collins. Danny became ill last year, and doctors had determined in May that hospice was the best option for him. He was cared for day and night by his wife Mary Jane, the Logan's, his nephew Michael, and hospice staff.
Danny was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane who passed away unexpectedly about a month ago. He was also preceded in death by his parents Howard (Clara) Collins, sister Linda (Leroy) Phillips, brother Howard Paul Jr. (Susan) Collins, and parents-in-law Roy and Mary Logan whom he deeply loved! He is survived by his brother-in-law John (Samantha) Logan, sister-in-law Debra Nored Logan, and many nieces and nephews including many Logan family nieces and nephews, along with Michael Phillips of Tupelo and Justin Phillips of Tyler, TX.
Mr. Collins will be laid to rest next to his wife on Monday, July 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Scotland Baptist Church cemetery in Winona, MS.
