Donald Fryar Obituary

Donald Wayne "Pop" Fryar, resident of the Dumas Community and retired supervisor for Conoco Corporation, passed away Wednesday morning, December 14, 2016 at Diversicare Healthcare Center in Ripley. He was 79 years of age and died following an illness of serveral weeks.

Services honoring the good life of Mr. Fryar will be at 10 AM Saturday, December 17 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Ritchie Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in New Prospect Presbyterian Cemetery near Dumas.

Born November 14, 1937 in Tippah County, he was the son of the late James D. "Top" and Verna Hall Fryar. AS a young person he lived with his family in Georgia and was a graduate of Meigs High School in Thomasville, GA. He returned to the Dumas Community 16 years ago and was a member of the Dumas Baptist Church.

Mr. Fryar was a long time employee of the Conoco Oil Corporation and served as a company supervisor for most of his life before his retirement in 1993.

A visitation for family and friends will be from 5PM to 8PM Friday, December 16 at The Ripley Funeral Home.

Known affectionately as "Pop" by his grandchildren and family, Mr. Fryar will be remembered as a family oriented person who enjoyed attending all sporting activities that his children and grandchildren participated in. His family will remember his special love for Ole Miss sports that included baseball and football.

He leaves to cherish his memory 5 children, Donna Hill (Rube), Robin Criswell (Michiel), Shane Fryar (Kelly), all of Dumas, Lisa Brock (Johnny) of Myrtle and Misty Byrd (Randy) of Ripley, 12 grandchildren, Dustin Moreland (Paris), Brian Byrd and Lauren Byrd of Ripley, Morgan Dees (Blake) of Mantachie, Chris Byrd (Brittany) and Devin Brock (Danielle) of New Albany, Tyler Wooley of Myrtle, Chance Criswell, Ben Fryar, Ellie Grace Fryar, Elliott Hill and Jordan Hill all of Dumas and 4 great grandchildren. Mr. Fryar was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Fitzhugh and a grandson, Brandon Fitzhugh.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dustin Moreland, Ben Fryar, Tyler Wooley, Devin Brock, Brian and Chris Byrd, Elliott and Jordan Hill.
