Dorsey Wiygul Obituary

Born January 21, 1939, in the Carolina Community to D.L. and Gladys Wiygul.

Dorsey Longino (D.L.) "Bud" Wiygul, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. A devoted husband, father, educator, craftsman, and man of faith, Bud spent his life building-whether it was the character of his students, the furniture in his shop, or his cherished classic cars.

Bud graduated from Itawamba High School and Itawamba Junior College before earning both his undergraduate and master's degrees from Mississippi State University. A proud Bulldog, his loyalty to Mississippi State never wavered, even when he completed several doctorate hours from Ole Miss.

He began his teaching career in Macon, Georgia, where he lived after marrying the love of his life, Wanda Newell, on August 11, 1962. The couple later returned home to Mississippi, where Bud worked in industry and then dedicated many years to education at Itawamba Junior/Community College. During his tenure at IJC/ICC, he served as both an administrator and instructor and was instrumental in founding the Manufacturing Technology program. He retired from ICC in 2001 and later continued his service to the institution as a member of the Board of Trustees.

Bud and Wanda welcomed their daughter, Kimberly, into their lives in 1968, and he took great joy in supporting her and sharing his many talents and passions.

A lifelong member of Carolina United Methodist Church, Bud's faith was a steady presence throughout his life. He exemplified his beliefs through quiet acts of service, generosity, and dedication to his family and community. He also served as a Gideon.

Outside of his professional accomplishments and church involvement, Bud was a man whose hands were rarely idle. He spent countless hours restoring classic automobiles and even working on what others might call "junkers," but which he saw as projects full of potential. A Chevrolet man through and through, he could talk cars for hours. He also loved working in his shop on woodworking projects, crafting meaningful pieces for family and friends with precision and care.

A man of generosity and quiet strength, Bud was happiest when creating something or helping someone. Whether cheering for the Bulldogs, restoring an old car, or shaping wood, he poured his heart into everything he did. He was an amateur Ham radio operator, and loved to trade and find a good deal.

He was preceded in death by his father, D.L. Wiygul, his mother, Gladys Wiygul, his brother, Glyn Wiygul, and his infant daughter, Rhonda Wiygul.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Wiygul, his daughter, Kim Wiygul Williams (Rodney), and many family members and friends who were touched by his kindness, craftsmanship, strong faith, and unwavering dedication.

Funeral services were held at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, Mississippi, on December 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM. He was laid to rest in Wiygul Cemetery in the Carolina Community.

Bud will be remembered for his love of family, enduring work ethic, devotion to faith and education, enthusiasm for classic cars, woodworking and puttering in his shop. His legacy lives on in the lives he influenced and the things he built-both by hand and through his example. Memories and condolences may be shared with his family at EEPickleFuneralHome.com
