James Alexander Obituary

James Kenneth Alexander, 85, died Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit. James was born on August 20, 1939 in Sunflower County Mississippi to the late James Rudolph Alexander and Queen Elizabeth "Lizzie" Smith Alexander. He was raised in the Mississippi Delta. He attended and graduated from Ruleville High School. He met and married the love of his life, Iris Bailey, on June 20, 1959, to which two wonderful children were born to complete their family. On March 19, 1970 tragedy struck the family when their 8 year old daughter, Lisa Caron Alexander, crossed the Jordan River into eternity. The Alexanders then moved to Minnesota. After one Minnesota winter, they quickly returned to the warmth of the South and settled in Jackson, MS. In 1987 they moved to the Tupelo area where they homestead.

James was a great man of faith. He loved to testify about the grace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and thoroughly enjoyed studying his Bible to grow in his faith. He loved working in his yard and self-taught himself to repair lawn mowers.

A service to celebrate James's life will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2025 in the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel with Bro. Mike Brazile and Bro. Bert Harper officiating. Visitation will be from 12 PM until service time Wednesday at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo. For those unable to attend the service will be live streamed and can be viewed at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com/live-streaming and archived thereafter.

James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Iris Alexander; son, Kenny Alexander of Sherman; sisters, Sybil Hays of Boyle, MS, and Cindy Scoggins of Bossier City, LA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Caron Alexander; brothers, Calvin Alexander, Alvin "Bud" Alexander, and Lonnie Alexander; sister, Sarah Elaine Alexander; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Alexander.

Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
