Slick(James) was my classmate (class of '71). I remember him as the most honest and fair minded of people that I've ever had the privilege of knowing.
I was never one of the "cool" ones in school,but somewhat of a bookworm. I predate the words nerd.Even though Slick was popular and a great basketball player to boot, he always treated me with respect, not only in school, but in life thereafter. I loved him for that and shall always hold him in the highest of esteem and affection. He was my FRIEND.

I first met slick when I was a student teacher at Nettleton in 1969. He was a great young man and a great basketball player played on a terrific team that lost the state championship in the final game. I turned out to be a basketball coach and I thought many times about James and how he could dominate a basketball game
