Jimmy McCoy Obituary

Jimmy Lamar McCoy, Jr., 51, departed this life quickly and unexpectedly for the happy hunting grounds in the sky on Monday, April 15, 2024. Jim was getting checked out at West Tupelo Medical Clinic when he suddenly collapsed and died with an apparent massive heart attack. Born in Tupelo on January 1, 1973 to the late Jimmy Lamar "Cotton" McCoy and Pamela Gritton McCoy Hamblin, who survives, Jim grew up here, attended the public schools and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1991 where he was an outstanding football player. He began working after high school and started learning electrical and HVAC. He later attended ICC and received his degree in HVAC. He was co-owner of Hamco Electrical Services with his stepfather, Donnie for many years. They worked in and around Tupelo for 10 years. Jim worked in several capacities for the University of Mississippi over the last 15 years and, at his death, was an instrumentation technician. A big man with an even larger heart, Jim respected his family and friends and would give you the shirt off his back. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter always looking forward to the next deer season. He enjoyed old Southern gospel music as well as being a rock fan. He and his wife, Jennifer, were active members of the Cook Memorial Baptist Church in Pontotoc Co. Jim's greatest joy in life was his family. He was totally devoted to his wife, Jennifer as her heart and soul and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM Friday, April 19, 2024 in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with his pastor, Bro. Wayne Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Cook Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Pontotoc Co. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7 PM Thursday, April 18, 2024 and from 10 AM- service time on Friday, all at Holland-Tupelo, which is honored to be serving their friends. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/Livestreaming on Friday and will be permanently archived thereafter.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jennifer Holder McCoy, to whom he married Nov. 3, 2001; his children, Zach McCoy (Haley) and Paxton McCoy (Amber)all of Pontotoc and daughter, Alexis Sappington (Colton), U.S Marine Corp stationed in Yuma, Arizona; his grandchildren whom "Babby" dearly loved, Shaelyn, Burkley, Oakley, Rubi Cate and Swayze Mae; his mother, Pam Hamblin and her husband, Donnie of Tupelo; many nieces and nephews along with several cousins and other kinsmen. He was preceded in death his Dad, Lt. Cotton McCoy (Tupelo Police Dept.), his sister, Anna McCoy and his grandparents, Dean and Ruby Gritton and Noel and Kate McCoy.

Pallbearers will be Jason Estes, Lee Huffman, Greg Martin, Jeff McCoy, Neal McCoy, Scott McCoy, and Larry Allen McCoy. Honorary pallbearers will be his associates in the HVAC and Instrumentation at Ole Miss.
